Banana: Divine. Banana Cream Pie: Still Sinful

This video comes to us courtesy of Daniel Radosh, whose forthcoming book on Christian pop culture I can't wait to read. For anyone tired of the Gomorrah that is YouTube, there is now Godtube, a Christian video sharing site. This clip explains the evidence for the existence of God in the perfectly utilitarian shape of a banana, a fruit the site calls the worst nightmare of the "athiest." (Sic, I think. Though I suppose it may be a compliment: "That dude's the athiest guy I know!") And yes, that is Kirk Cameron sitting on the right. [Update: I took down the Godtube version of the video and embedded the YouTube version, only because the Godtube version began playing automatically when it loaded. I thought some readers might find that annoying, because I do. For the more or less identical Godtube clip, see here.]

Also, Radosh may be too classy to make this joke, but I'm not: I didn't know a Christian video about God and a piece of fruit could be this dirty. The "banana" fits perfectly into the "hand" how again, exactly?

This God fella really is great. Who else would give Kirk Cameron a job.

This is probably the dirtiest thing I have ever seen in my life! Sometimes a banana is NOT just a banana. I am giggling like a schoolgirl over here. And why are they sitting in front of a Bob Ross painting?

Hmmmmm, as an Atheist I totally missed out on using "The ID Banana" story as a way to convince doubting past dates to perform an act of oral exploration into another banana-like "creation" of this brilliant creator deity. After all, it fit her hand perfectly, was curved towards her face, was perfect for her mouth and usually didn't explode upon first touch. (Sorry, Heather!) What a fool I have been to harbor any doubts of my own about the existence and grand design of Kirk Cameron's almighty. It must be the only way he gets the girls now. Brilliant! (Sorry to disappoint, I may use the story with the ladies but at heart, I am still an Atheist)

Wow!!! I have, for a variety of reasons, spent nearly sixty years around fundamentalist Christianists of one kind or another and I have seen and heard some really very, silly things during that time. I don't think that I have ever seen anything this utterly, completely, absurdly silly. This is orders of magnitude more silly than I could have possibly imagined in my least charitable moments, silliness on a cosmic Richter scale. A 10+, at the very least. I will avoid ALL of the various jokes and comments that could be made about subtext and sublimation, and so forth, as much as it pains me to do so. Does look like a Bob Ross painting doesn't it? I always thought he was pretty cool in a gentle, fairly stoned sort of way. As for Mr. Cameron, to paraphrase 'Scripture', "How are the silly fallen! Tell it not to the 700 Club, publish it not in the broadcast booths of TBN. Let the daughters of the rational rejoice. Let the daughters of the perceptive giggle. How have the silly fallen, the functions of their brains turned to mush!"

Can you say, "pomegranate"? WTF? Are pomegranates evidence of chaos theory?

Non-slip surface? Doesn't squirt in your face? A point at the top for ease of entry? Just the right shape for the human mouth? Even curved toward the face to make the whole process so much easier? Are these people completely, f***ing insane? What planet are they from? And why is Kirk Cameron smiling....? Inquiring minds want to know.
