When a white person says some racial comment, there is outrage over it. When a black person says a racial comment (i.e.: Chris Rock), it is just accepted. When a black person makes a racial comment about whites (i.e.: Rap songs, and I can name a few, that refer to whites as "crackers", among others, as well as many stand-up black comedians calling whites wankers, crackers, etc.) there is NOTHING done about it, especially on a large scale. You don't see or hear white people in a rage because of Dead Prez (rap group) saying "I'm down for running up on them crackers in they city hall". Get me right, I am NOT condoning what Don Imus said, but I am, however, saying just give it up. Racial slurs are always going to be there, and until there are equal reprocussions for EVERY race using racial slurs, the problem is going to exist. You cannot punish one race while allowing another.

Having read the April 23 issue, someone should have read the article and someone of common intellgence should have known that at point, Don was fired from MSNBC (which should clean its own house) and NBC.

I am heartily sick of the black culture pointing fingers at the world when they feel put upon, insulted, ignored, etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum.

Shut up, go to school like the whites do, get an education and make a life for yourself without having that black Joe McCarthy create such a stir.
Jesse Jackson has no room to point a finger at anyone.

What Don said was not so terrible, had Sharpton now been called in.If those college girls were devastated, they should go back a few grades until they grow up. Insults come to everyone.

Remember the Irish when they came here? Signs in windows, "Irish need not apply". The went to work
and each generation was expected to do better.

We are kicking the Mexicans out, they come here, work, and send money home. They don't ask everyone to tread lightly.

Remember Lennie Bruce? He wound up in front of the Supreme Court who found in his favor under the freedon of speech article.

This whole issue smells. There is definitely some other hands at work here to stir up the populace.

This is a poor ending for Mr. Imus, brught about nt so much by his mouth, but by the agendas of the others.

He did more than have authors on to sell book, or politicians. His show at times sparkled, at times not, just like everyone else on TV. He is an intelligent person who had much to say about the White House, and finally Walter Reed hospital. Were it not for Don Imus that hospital would still be a mess. And since then no one has mentioned it.

Maybe there are other powers at work. You should dig a little deeper and try and write an intelligent article.

I know how to solve the problem of rascism. Go back in time (ca. 1400s or so) and blow up any ship that would attempt to land on what is now known as the Americas. White people are too stupid to be here...so are Black people...so is everyone else that strives to make a living in this joke we call America. It's so screwed up here I don't even know where to start. As soon as I get the money to do so, I'm going to Denmark or somewhere similar in Europe. They seem less stupid there. Only the Native Americans seem to have gotten it right. Most of them learned to at least respect one another and live with the land. They attempted to teach Whites to do the same and Whites repayed them with hardship and bloodshed. Blacks are free now and have been for a long time. Leaders and Innovators were among their ranks...until now. Who is there (that is mainstream) for Blacks to look to now? Biggie Smalls? Tupac? Ludacris? This is ridiculous and all wrong. Who cares about Imus? Let him say what he wants. To whom it offends...get a show like his and intelligently bash his statements...make him look like an idiot on his own playing field...play his game...that's what america is supposed to be about right? freedom of speech? Quit whining...his statements didn't break any ground or move the earth...it pissed a handful of people off. Geez...

At first glance I was somewhat surprised at the amount of intelligent comments here, but then the further I read the more stupid the post's. I think Imus should not have been fired but made to pay a hefty fine and a larger donation to the Rutger Womens athletic association. Having said that I also think that we as a country need to address the issue of racism and sexism that still goes on in this country, and contrary to 'popular' belief black people are not the only ones to have nappy hair. I also get nappy hair and no I'm not black, I'm mexican. I also have what I like to call a 'rainbow' family made up of black white mexican spanish and I think italian, so quite frankly having such a diverse family I think that we can empathize with the young women, I personally empathize with them on a female platform I think it's wrong to degrade women period. I'm also sick of the propaganda the likes of sharpton and jackson keep perpetuating when are they going to be called to task.
Thank You.

If we have gleaned anything from this experience is to spotlight ignorance in all communities. I felt Imus should not be fired as long as the Rutgers Team accepted his apology. I pray and hope this will make him a better person. Karma, you know. As far as rappers, enough is enough. They constantly shock and shock us with their demeaning lyrics. Its not music just crast commercialism that sells unfortunately in a society that had lost a lot of its innocence and panders to the lowest level at times. We need outspoken persons like Sharpton and Jackson but they should be trying to bring decency and normalcy back to the beleagured black communities. I applaud Mr. Sharpton. Blacks don't get it. When they hurt one another they hurt a whole fragile community. Young people encouraged by careless and nonfeeling derogatory words grow up apathetic and noncaring. The Bible it self says "the power of life and death is in the tongue." Black people were doing well up until the 1980s when the drugs took over the communties. When we hurt our communities we hurt our families, ourselves, our survival in a world that is cold and not in our corner. I'm tired of the killing of black people (all innocent people for that matter). Its a shame they could be killing a future Martin Luther King, Jr. Blacks need to wake up and stop being self destructive. There are too many out there wanting to destroy us!

Saying white people are the problem behind rap music is just way of black people trying to remove responsibiltiy from their culture to the white culture. They say seventy percent of white people listen to rap music. Well i bet ninety nine percent of black people listen to rap music.

I just read where you stated that you are not reading these emails. I hope someone is. I mean I hope someone responsible is. I cannot believe that Imus was fired. Who better than he to really tackle this issue and get something done? The man can move mountains when he has a mind to. I personally will miss him. I enjoyed his kidding with all people on his show and I am disgusted by those who now are afraid to stand up for him because of their political yearnings. The way these people stood for or against Imus says an awful lot about them and will sway my mind when it comes time to vote. Hire him back! You cannot afford not too.
