Bye-Bye-a, Sanjaya
It's not like I have anything much to say. But I figured some of our redoubtable Sanjayaphobes could use a place to comment, gloat, dance amidst the lighted torches and pitchforks whilst swinging Sanjaya's lifeless head by its long raven tresses, etc. Have at it.
Anyway, now we get to look forward to a couple exciting weeks in which America will decide whether Phil is slightly more mediocre than Chris, or Chris is slightly more mediocre than Phil. Woo-hoo! Wake me up in May.

Well that was sudden. And it only adds to the evidence that the producers of AI rig the voting.
But I think the main reason Sanjaya is gone is that he went "meta". Rather than being a bad singer who knew how to work a camera and an audience, he became simply someone who worked the camera and audience while "singing".
Remember, Vote For the Worst exists in response to the manipulative nature of AI itself. The whole VFTW audience (and with 10,000,000 hits a week, that audience carried considerable clout when there are 38,000,000 votes being cast, and a bunch of other easily expendable performers available) wasn't willing to be manipulated by Sanjaya any more than they were by the AI producers.
So Sanjaya is gone. But he'll be part of the AI tour. And he'll get a recording contract (I mean, if William Hung can cut a record...) and release a CD that uses multiple takes and overdubs to compensate for his inadequacies as a singer. And he'll wind up on the cover of Teen Beat magazine, and create a small splash -- and in two years time be a staple of the "List" shows that we all mindlessly watch on VH1 and E!

Free at last, free at last....thank voting america almighty, we are free at last.....
i dont care who you are, Sanjaya's rendition of Lets Give Them Something to Talk About was by far the worst I've ever seen. No matter how cute, how "hairific," he is...he just couldn't get beyond that.
to the above poster...10,000,000 hits does not equal 10MM votes...it just meant that people like me, who can count for a few of those hits, went to look and see what the buzz was all about. Am I America's biggest fan of Idol, not at all. I am, however, a believer that eventually, a boat in turbulent seas will eventually right itself or sink. Well, the boat righted itself finally.
I am confident that the vote wasn't rigged for a couple of other reasons, the first and foremost being the other bottom two. Kiki's performance was unbecoming of her...she fits into country slippers about as well as she does a mini-skirt. Likewise, Blake (while i was sad to see him in the bottom 3) similarly doesn't fit that country mold. You can't perform on-par if you are so far out of your personal comfort zone...and i firmly believe that is what happened to Blake and Kiki. We'll see what the next weeks bring, but i think it's safe so say we can all rest a little easier now that Sanjaya is off of the show. I wish him the best...he was certainly a pop charachter, if not a great singer.

Sajaya will cash in and make big bucks even if he never sings another note. He's a "cash cow" with the young girls of America and somebody will certainly be smart enough to produce and market this kid. He'll be a multi-millionaire long before he gets out of his teens. I think he deserves some fame and fortune simply for having the guts to put up with and not be intimated by Simon Cowell week after week.
Remember, it was Randy, Paula, and Simon who auditioned Sanjaya in the first place, not once but several times. They gave him a green light each time. The kid had enough smarts to know this was his chance at fame and fortune and he's ridden the hurricane and has crossed the first hurdle. The rest is all gravy if he gets a savvy management team to get him into all the right places. The cash is out there for the making. He can market Revlon hair products or any other big label and rake in the bucks. Go Sanjaya!! Make that money, baby !!!!

Thank goodness he is gone because he really had little talent. Last week when he sang the latin song was the first time he ever sounded decent, in fact, he did a great job. However, that was the ONLY time in his AI experience that he showed even an iota of star material.
If he becomes a latin singer he may have some success. That would be interesting considering that it's not his ethnic group but regardless, that is the only area he has done well in so far.
Hell, I'm just glad he's gone because he was horrific!

For a second last night, I thought I would be rid of both Sanjaya and Charlie on "Lost", and, lo, I did rejoice. One of two isn't bad, especially when that one is Sanjaya ( and Charlie's days are clearly numbered). The universe is now set to rights, I can watch Idol without feeling nauseous. Happy, happy, joy, joy.

I am so sad that Sanjaya is gone. It was the first time I have watched AI and will be my last. I was behind him for many reason's but the big one is that he is sweet and unspoiled by this world. He is a 17 year old boy for god's sake and all that put him down need to re-evalute YOUR value to this world. His smile can melt anyone (minus all the racist's) and I will miss it. He WILL go on futher than any of the others. AI lost it's beacon of light and I would have never watched this long if it weren't for Sanjaya.

I'm sad he's gone. He was so unique, sensual and passionate. Nobody else is like that. Everyone else is all-american type. He was something different, something intimate and soft. Sweet as hell too. Now he's gone and I think it sucks. All those guyz who don't like him are just a bunch of redneck all-american racist, romance-illetirate fools. All the girls who don't like me are a bunch of romance-intolerant, corrupted, typical women. Only people who dare to be different would value Sanjaya as something special. The passionate, emotional individual Sanjaya is not something that's in every guy. GUyz are just a bunch of hardcore idiots who have no idea how to even smile graciously.

Oh ya, the reason why preteen girls like Sanjaya is coz they're uncorrupted by the romance intolerance that prevails in women these days. These little girls are innocent and see the perfect form of romantic thinking. Sanjaya is the perfect form, the embodiment of passion and emotion. The gentle guy whose smile lights up an innocent soul's heart. But too bad, most of the preteen girls as they grow up, become the typical women.

Sanjaya was a perfect medium for the directors and producers of AI to score great ratings. Simon is a business person -- a HS drop out with no accomplishments, who turned famous solely because of rich daddy.
Sanjaya helped Simon to market his show. He was kept on long enought until it became just too unbearable. Simon is the producer of this show and other shows like American Inventor. In essence, how do we know what goes on behind the scenes?
Sanjaya has no talent. He never had any talent from the day of the first casting. So, what tricks did he use? If you're unskilled for the things you're doing, divert the attention.
Sanjaya was a perfect cash cow for Simon. Maybe his trickery was supported by AI; otherwise, really, how come no one ever urged him to change in between shows?

"dance amidst the lighted torches and pitchforks whilst swinging Sanjaya's lifeless head by its long raven tresses" ?
This is a 17 year-old child you're talking about. Could you please spare us the macabre imagery about A CHILD ... on a singing show, no less. Show some class, Time magazine.

I'll never watch AL anymore since Sanjaya is gone.So boring now to watch AL with all the left big, fat, ugly girls...What the hell is "vocal" for,the only thing attractive to viewers is something unique like Sanjaya.I like to watch his performance no matter how his vocal is? Go Sanjaya..I'll be with you

Everyone. The kid is only 17. It's really sad how everyone is literally blasting this kid. I really hope he's strong enough to ignore the hateful energy being thrown at him. Yes, he does not have the talent as most on that stage, but he was selected to be part of the top 12. That was not his fault. Those 3 judges selected him and now they act like he's some alien. To stick through the show with all the nonsense around him at 17 means he's destined to excel at whatever he puts his mind and effort in. I wish him much luck!

I've been watching idol for 4 years. I'm 62 and enjoy seeing the talent. I also thought Sanjaya was the "worst". However, all the Sanjaya bashing made me feel sorry for him and started me thinking. Fabian was a BIG idol in my time. Could he sing? NO The program is American Idol - not America's Best Singer. Obviously Sanjaya fits the bill for some people as an idol. He showed a lot of maturity in handling all the adverse publicity. I say "more power to him". I wouldn't have been able to stand the pressure.

April 19,2007.(a) Thanks to Simon Cowell for all his Criticism
in this world on Sanjaya Malakar. Today Sanjay
has his own crowd not only in USA or in the
entire North America but in this whole world
where ever people has witnessed AI.(b) We appreciate Simon Cowell's criticism on
Sanjay Malakar was too much. If Simon Cowell
can do his own SWOT (Strength,Weakness,Oppor
tunity & Threat)his evaluation of weakness pe
rcentage is more. I think Simon Cowell has to
correct.(c) Its happy to understand that Sanjay Malakar
has taken all the criticism of Simon Cowell
as a positive dictionary to learn his school
of music. Hats off to his attitude. Simon Co
well criticsm in general should not go beyond
on teen aged people because he will be only
developing bad elements in our society. If
Simon Cowell gets free time its better for him
to learn and understand Psychology in general.Any how AI is an excellent program.

My thoughts.....
On the show that aired 04/18/2007 - when the result was announced, it was Sanjaya's turn to sing ...you know what I mean ! My heart sank ! Being voted off brought a few tears to my eyes! Sanjaya too wiped away tears saying "I'm fine, It was an amazing experience." Although the Sanjaya-haters are reveling in his being voted off American Idol, for better or worse, depending on who's doing the talking, Sanjaya Malakar has become an Idol Legend.
What is American Idol ? Like Rose put it..."The program is American Idol - not America's Best Singer."
I think the winner is more than just a "great singer". He or She is an Entertainer - first, an Ambassador - second and a Role Model - third ! But most of all the winner is and should be "An Inspiration"
This year American Idol kept me glued right till the very end of each show all because of "Sanjaya Malakar". There are millions who feel the way I do. Just look on the web for his fan sites/blogs etc.
Sanjaya brought a kind of energy and enjoyment to each show. I loved watching him!
Sanjaya has been one of the only American Idol contestant's in Idol history to who has been able to create the BUZZ, make loyal FANS, and who has been able to make and break not only NEWS STORIES but also HEARTS ! Not only did the mainstream media like CNN, NBC talk about him ....but bloggers far and wide have made him a legend....featuring him on their (even ....non-entertainment) blogs & websites ! He has sold millions of newspapers, tabloids and magazines. And he is the ONLY American Idol contestant who has been "favorited" a gazillion times on "You Tube". Also, you know you "have-arrived" and are a true entertainer when you get featured on SNL. What he lacked in vocal range he made up in SMILES !
Although Sanjaya was routinely savaged by Cowell, who threatened to quit if he won... he still managed to stay on American Idol. Sanjaya managed to cultivate a huge and unlikely fan base that helped him survive round after round of viewer elimination.
A Note to the "Haters" ....
The "hate" spewed by some adults on blogs, websites, newspapers and TV shows is disgusting and not amusing to me. It is this kind of hatred that develops into attitudes and those attitudes transcend to our youngsters who learn behaviors of "hate" from it. Those behaviors show in their speech, writings, acts, and crimes of hatred not only towards themselves but others around them. Crimes like - teen suicides, depression, and rampages like the ones we have seen on school and college campuses lately.
As a mother I believe in, yes, "telling it like it is" to my kids but not hurting them and leading them to a point of no-return.
So think deep and hard.....all of you bloggers, newsmakers, columnists... before you blog, print...Edit Yourself !
Way to go Sanjaya "Life IS Beautiful"
Good Luck in ALL your endeavors !
KEEP SMILING KIDDO! -

Just a thought ... who would you rather have looking at you on your TV screen ... A Young Man whose smile goes ear to ear and who "flirts with the camera" - or the other young man whose vicious look into his own camera pre-empted his appalling deeds?
Let all the Sanjayas of the world keep being themselves - sweet, honest, smiley-faced and innocent. We need Sanjaya! Set a trend, buddy. Good luck to you in all you can do now - for one thing with those eyes you would make a great model.
BTW, AI is suppoosed to be a talent contest for amateurs - most of the others can sing better than Sanj but they have been PAID to sing at one time or another. Sanj just got up and sang like a kid next door - more like him on AI is what I say.

"SANJAYA IS LOVE" as Diana Ross put it. He's a great kid with big dreams, and he made it to the top seven on American Idol (and will continue to entertain us throughout the summer on the American Idol Tour). Good for him!
Everyone needs to stop dumping on this kid and leave him alone now. I've grown to like him, and I wish him well.
By the way, he wasn't a bad singer at all (and, believe me, I'm not tone-deaf. He just has a mellow voice, even tho I admit that he wasn't IDOL material in the end as far as singing was concerned). His charm and charisma won people's hearts overall, and he has a bright future. He carried himself well and has class, and was able to laugh at himself and move on.
As far as I'm concerned, he's the winner overall. The joke's on all of us, OK? After all, he's only 17, but he had us all sucked into the frenzy, and his smile and grace charmed a great many of us. May he live long and prosper. You go, Sanjaya! Be well.
