SUPER BREAKING OMG FLASHING RED SIREN! Rosie Leaving View
Last fall, Rosie O'Donnell stormed onto the set of The View like a hurricane making landfall, swelling the ratings and becoming a constant publicity machine for the show after taking over from Meredith Vieira. But storms don't blow forever, and at the top of this morning's edition of The View, Hurricane Rosie announced that she's leaving the show's panel of hosts in June. Which means Donald Trump needs to start lining up a replacement feud with Oprah, and fast.
Rosie's brief explanation was that it was just business: "I've decided that we couldn't come to terms with my deal with ABC," she said. "They wanted me three years, and I wanted one year"--which seems plausible enough, one year being about the time it would take to put together a solo talk show, get syndication clearances and launch in fall 2008. It's no shock; Rosie is daytime ratings gold, she has a lot of options (at one point she was reportedly in talks to spin off her Nip/Tuck character) and she'd have no reason to lock herself into three years of anything. (No replacement's been found yet, says Walters.)
I'm sure plenty of people were parsing her co-host's reactions. (Her conservative foil Elisabeth Hasselbeck was I'm sure just devastated, saying diplomatically, "You are such a catalyst.") But whatever controversies Rosie has had, her leaving can't be good for The View, and I'm sure Barbara Walters knows it. I've always thought there was something a little don't-throw-me-into-the-briar-patch about Walters' supposed discomfort with Rosie's loose-cannon statements. (Trump, Clay Aiken / Kelly Ripa, the "ching chong" controversy, American Idol's supposed "weightism," etc.) Walters always meant the show to be a hot-button forum, and Rosie's fingers danced over those buttons like a speed-typist's.
The View has always had to balance good outrageousness with bad outrageousness (two words: Star Jones), and whoever Rosie offended, she rescued a show that had seemed to be imploding. Better that The View get attention for her mouth than for Star's weight loss. As if acknowledging this, Rosie followed her announcement with another call for President Bush's impeachment, for old times' sake. Her co-hosts should enjoy it while it lasts, until Rosie takes her mouth and goes home.

Even as I sit here, I can't believe I'm writing this. I've never been one to voice my opinions in such a public manner. But after learning that Miss Rosie O'Donnel wants to sell otherwise perfectly reasonable people the idée fixe that her way of life is correct and everyone else's isn't, I felt I at least had to set a few things straight. Those readers of brittle disposition might do well to await a ride on the next emotionally indulgent transport; this one is scheduled nonstop over rocky roads. As soon as you're strapped in, I'll announce something to the effect of how Rosie has certainly never given evidence of thinking extensively. Or at all, for that matter.
At the very least, Rosie's disciples say, "Human beings should be appraised by the number of things and the amount of money they possess instead of by their internal value and achievements." Yes, I'm afraid they really do talk like that. It's the only way for them to conceal that it would be a strategic blunder of epic proportions for Rosie to help maledicent, discourteous individuals back up their prejudices with "scientific" proof, so to speak. She pompously claims that the sky is falling. That sort of nonsense impresses many people, unfortunately.
This is not the place to develop that subject. It demands many pages of analysis, which I can't spare in this letter. Instead, I'll just state the key point, which is that the ultimate aim of Rosie's slurs is to restructure society as a pyramid with Rosie at the top, Rosie's supporters directly underneath, treasonous, oleaginous freaks beneath them, and the rest of at the bottom. This new societal structure will enable Rosie to batten on the credulity of the ignorant, which makes me realize that I can obviously suggest how she ought to behave. Ultimately, however, the burden of acting with moral rectitude lies with Rosie herself. Rosie has a penchant for counterinsurgency and clandestine operations. Sadly, lack of space prevents me from elaborating further. There are two sorts of people in this world: decent, honest folks like you and me and balmy card sharks like her. Might I suggest that she search for a hobby? It seems Rosie has entirely too much time on her hands, given how often she tries to let misinformed gaberlunzies run rampant through the streets. Miss Rosie O'Donnel sees only one side of the issue. That's all I have to say. Thank you for reading this letter.

I'm suprised that she lasted this long. Good riddence.

Perhaps they could get Alec Baldwin in drag to replace Rosie. That would give the Fox News pundits a familar target to continue being aghast at.

Good move for Rosie, she should have been gone the first day. What was Barbara thinking? Must have been just about ratings and she got more than she bargained for. Was there anyone that she did care for, other than herself? Maybe Barbara will think before she brings in the next person unless she is looking for another ratings grabber.

7
marty, and you see only the other side...but how, exactly are you different from rosie in that regard?

To Rosie:
You go girl! You've brought more reality to The View than anyone before you!
To the Republicans who wish to destroy you: never mind. They just tossed away power for a long, long time!

It's about time. I'm so sick of hearing all the stupid things she has to say day after day. I agree with you Al, Ding Dong the witch is dead!

I will be through watching "The View" after you leave, Rosie. I love watching you make a moron of stupid Elizabeth! I wish it were her going and not you. You will find another show or rather they will find you. I'll miss you and so will my friends!!

Daytime TV is a vast wasteland. With Rosie gone it will be a little less so.

Rosie leaving is v. v. good, and nobody in their right mind would even give this no-good women a chance to do anything in future. Also, in my opinion they should cancel the 'VIEW', as it's pure nonesense, who need women sitting around gossiping and making big money for it. The media is crazy if they want to see rubbish like this show. I think Barbara and her so-called view team should keep their 'VIEWS' to themselves, and while I'm on the subject, I think some people should call it quits for good; meaning - RETIRE.

Good Luck Rosie. You use your "platforms" to speak your mind. It is one of the great American pleasures and values that we all cherish and continue to fight for daily. Though I don't always agree with you, and I think your comments at lunch on Monday were a bit too harsh, disrespectful as well as distasteful, your intent I respect. Your extremism and humor allow you the pulpit, and your views help us all shape our world. Rupert has his papers, Donald has his name and you have your mouth. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Thank God all mighty the witch is dead!!! I absolutely cannot stand her or anything she says! Al, you are exactly correct, she is "Tokyo Rosie"! Something is very wrong in psyche when you have to insult everyone that you come into contact with. She gets very offended when someone talks about her. I think she is a fat, nasty pig, with an incredibly big mouth and no brain!! May she rest in peace and stay off of tv and out of the public's eye.

See I told you so

Rosie has proven if you're a fat lesbian you can get away with anything. Good riddance!
-
17
Thank the Lord she's gone. I wish all clueless celebrities go away. Let's see: she mocks the chinese (and nothing happens), says catholics can't be judges, says the Brits purposely were caught in Iranian waters...All extremists (on both sides) should be shunned. It's one thing to express your opinion, it's another to express your opinion when you don't have your facts right.

Speaking as a gay person, Rosie goes about addressing issues all the wrong way. She can be way to boisterous, and in my opinion, she needs to stop outing celebrities who do not want to do so themselves. She makes it seem as though all gays and lesbians maintain the same opinions, and in all honesty some of the things she has done while on The View have set back gays. She needs to learn when to sit down and be quiet. I have only watched a few episodes while she has been on, and she tends to dominate every aspect of the conversations. Annoying as hell..that's why there is a panel, and not just her alone.

Joann I'm sure you are a STRAIGHT, slender, beauty queen - that right there is what Rosie is trying conquer - bigotry and stupidity. Stupidy breeds fear and hate and unfortunately MIDDLE AMERICAN and the BLUE STATES are rampant with those two qualities..........they will follow George W. over a cliff like the rest of the sheep herd. Kudos to Rosie for seeing through the propaganda and criminal veil that the Bush Administration has forced on the American people. Rosie will go onto bigger and better things - George Bush will be gone in several months..........and I'll stop watching the view as long as Elizabeth is on it.........

And the church said, AMEN, she's gone

In the context of broadcast television the only question facing programming executives is what sort of tastelessness and vulgarity excites the audience meter? One answer: Rosie's kind. Absent contracting a fatal case of Imus in the Mouth Disorder (which tends to disproportionately strike older white males), she is clearly the perfect daytime talking head.
To all the hand wringers, remember, the winning move is not to watch.

Geez, it's all or nothing w/some of you. ?Peace Out? Rosie is all American, like the rest of us.
I have alot in common w/ Rosie (dating, politics, etc.) But, I tuned out months ago.
Her ranting and excessive force of will drove me away. If she had just made her point and moved on, I would have continued to watch.
Different points of view make America great. Just don't assassinate verbal or otherwise. I swear Rosie has a chemical imbalance of the female or mental kind.
Maybe Rosie and Alec Baldwin could hold debates in Iraq, Iran and N Korea. Surely we would win the "war" then. -

A few weeks ago, I told a few people that the smart thing for "Babwa Wawa" to do would be to end "The View" after this season, before Rosie does more damage to Ms. Walters' legacy as a journalist.
Now that Rosie will soon be off the show, the smart thing for Barbara to do is to find one new co-host who is likeable and not too controversial, and who can help repair the image of the show. After 1-2 years, then end the show under good circumstances so that Barbara can end her television career on a positive note.

I think the VIEW is done for without Rosie. The show was a great premise for VIEWS from different women of different opinions but had lost its way until Rosie took a seat. But now it will be back to boredom but I won't be watching there's no need.

Right on, Duane. Even though you and I are "wired for different voltages" so-to-speak, doesn't mean we have to shreik at each other or say harmful things. She seems to lack common sense and self-control.
