Dead Tree Alert: One in a Hundred

There's no Arts section proper this week in the print Time, because most of the issue is given over to the Time 100, in which I sing the praises of Tina Fey. Fey is one of several TV-related honorees, who also include America Ferrera, Simon Fuller, Rosie O'Donnell, Shonda Rhimes and Brian Williams.

I didn't make the call to put any of them on the list: that decision is made above my pay grade, behind closed doors by a chicken pecking at feed pellets on a massive grid of famous faces Time's editors. But I'm glad Fey made the list, and glad that NBC picked up 30 Rock, so that her Time 100 victory was not a Pyrrhic one. Because really, if your consolation prize is a 300-word tribute written by me, you're better off hoping for a toaster oven.

    James,

Speaking of America Ferrara, why is there no Ugly Betty Watch? True it doesn't have the dramatic catche of Lost and Heroes but I would argue that it's just as good as those two shows and it's certainly some of the best comedy we've seen on Network TV in ages. (Sorry. I don't watch 30 rock. I know Tina Fey is new Aaron Sorkin or whatever but it's just not my cup of tea.) I love Vanessa Williams and America is lusciously adorable as Betty. In fact the whole show is like confectionairy television. It's light, fluffy and while it won't put any PhD's on your wall for dork thought power like Lost, it certainly can't hurt!

Or are you simply too busy watch the Backyardigans with Tuned In Jr and Jr Jr? (Also an excellent show!) ^_~

    See ya in Sweeps!

Well you should ask, C. Brown. The problem is that Ugly Betty is one of those shows that I enjoy delightedly whenever I watch it, yet doesn't draw me in enough that I feel I have to watch every week. So after the first couple months, I started watching every few weeks, to keep up (Survivor, The Office and 30 Rock being my regular Thursday rotation). And it's tough to write about a serial show if you're not watching every week.

Still, I'd like to expand Tuned In coverage a little more beyond the usual suspects, and I want to try to poll people on what they'd like to see more of here.

That said, don't expect a CSI watch, no matter how hard you beg.
