Robo-Post of the Day: Idolwatch, Special Guest Edition

In my absence this week, the editors of time.com have decided to do something really crazy with out weekly American Idol reviews and have them done by someone who actually knows something about music: Josh Tyrangiel, editor of time.com, Time magazine music critic and, after all the rounds of corporate cost-cutting we've done here, probably also the guy in charge of restocking the vending machines. (Can we do something about getting Funions back, Josh?)

Therefore, I take absolutely no responsibility for the uncharacteristic competence of this week's Idol reviews. But don't get used to it: I'll be back next week. In the meantime, it's your turn: Discuss, my pretties! Discuss like the wind!

Here is how I would rank the performances:

    1.Jordin – To Love Somebody
    2. LaKisha – Run to Me
    3. Melinda – How Can You Mend a Broken Heart
    4. LaKisha – Stayin’ Alive
    5. Melinda – Love You Inside Out
    6. Jordin – Woman In Love
    7. Blake -You Should Be Dancing
    8. Blake -This is Where I Came In

    Going home:

    Blake

Sorry, James, but I got nothing. Maybe because I don't watch Idol.

Paul Rudd on Veronica Mars, though? Spectacular...

I think they all kind of sucked, but Jordin and Blake sucked less... for lack of a more dignified term.
    Boogie music. Baad, baaaaad Idol.

    My rank after last night:

Send them all home and lets try again next year.

all i can say is that blake guy needs to pack his bags. he is all but gone. all that crap he does on every song is old.

    Poor song choices? Naaah.
    Poor mentoring choice? Probably.

Let's face it. Barry Gibb is a great song writer from a great group, but he wrote songs based on his vocal sound and the vocal sounds of his 2 brothers. Maybe what the singers should have done is taken a cue from Jordin and picked songs that Barry Gibb wrote for others to sing.

I think Melinda is #1 and Blake #2, they are both really talented and different...send the other 2 home..oh and as far as Blake beatboxing give it a try yourself and see just how talented u gotta be to be able to do that.. I am singer myself and these two got my votes either one can be #1 far as i am concerned and i would be happy.

The Bee-Gees are NOT my kind of music, so I didn't connect with any of the songs. I thought that Blake was (again, as per usual) the most creative and unique, and that he tried the hardest to bring something new to the songs. And I love the beatboxing - that takes real talent, and it makes the songs more interesting. I love all the top 4 - I had hoped it would come down to these 4. I think that Lakisha is the weakest link, and that she should go home tonite. I think that Melinda, Jordin and Blake have all assured themselves record deals, so I don't care who wins. I would like it to be Blake or Melinda, though - it is really getting irritating how the producers and judges have been pimping her out.

judges can't figure out what they want ...one week there saying , you must be more creative & this week now there saying ..original is where it's @ ...must be tough on the 4 left trying to figure out what it is they want ...thinkin blake 's going to be pakin his bags tonight

Not a stellor performance for any of the final 4 last night. I believe that Jordin and Melinda will end up in the top 2 spots. Jordin needs to be at the top of her game to come out the victor over Melinda. Melinda needs to really nail her songs from here on out to get the job done. Jordin has the look. Melinda has the pipes. Meld the 2 together and you have yourself a real American Idol!

The four we have are the four we have. Of the four, Blake has the most entertainment value as a performer. Set aside the awful theme this week and think about who would make the most interesting and enjoyable album?

Clearly I'm the only one here who is willing to tackle the tough issues that threaten to rip our nation asunder...

    It's "Funyuns", not "Funions"...

How else will you get them back in the vending machine?

    Happy to help...

This weeks theme was pretty awful, even though I am a Bee Gee's fan (Class of 1979!) Our top 4 didn't seem to relate to any of their songs. Sorry to see Lakisha go before Blake, but she flopped on "Stayin' Alive". "Run to Me" was better---barely. Blake's beatboxing was good but he was WAY off key. Both of Jordin's songs seemed too old for her and Melinda gave her usual great performance but had no WOW factor. The results show overall was poorly done, the sound was all over the place. The group medley was hideous. Barry Gibb seemed very uncomfortable (not hard to understand there. The band and singers need to be brought under control and stop overpowering the performers. It has happened several times. I was very disappointed in both of this week's shows.
