Idolwatch: The Rule of Threes

American Idol reviews are live this morning. My guess for tonight: Jordin goes home, leaving a Melinda-vs.-Blake showdown that will be a more interesting stylistic contrast, but soured by the fact that the judges and producers, through their song choices, seemed to do everything to ensure that result short of cutting Jordin's microphone cord. Feel free to debunk my conspiracy theory, or add your own.

I've said it here before and I'll say it again. The decks are stacked against the contestants. I'm sure it does weed out the less talented from the highly talented and it makes the show more interesting. But in the real life music industry, will Linkin Park ever have to sing country or disco and will George Strait ever have to sing rap? Instead of letting the contestants play to their strengths which is exactly how the pros end up getting recording contracts, the AI crowd has to prove themselves based on their weaknesses. It is stupid, but good TV I guess.

I am SO tired of people wanting Melinda not to be perfect. We are only watching AI because of Melinda: for once they have a singer who can actually sing.
I realize Paula and Randy did not study at Juilliard, but can you say "breath control"? Those gasps which Jordin makes at the end of each phrase may be dramatic but detract from the musical experience.
Blake is fun and hip. If Melinda is booted, he deserves to win. The bookies have given the best odds to Jordin since the start; but as Simon has said more than once, it is a singing competition. Many of us do not find Melinda dull, just wonderful.

Until last night I hadn't given Blake a second look. Then last night I realized the women have better voices but who cares Blake is the showman. They are both just boring on stage. During Nutbush it was painful to watch Mindy trying to be have some soul. Jordan frequently sings songs sounds and looks like Ella Fitzgerald or Della Reese or someone of that era.

Blake is maybe not the best vocalist but neither is Taylor Hicks for gods sake. He sparkles on stage live the beat boxing and he is young fresh and different. Isn't that what this show is looking for? If it isn't it shouild be.

Melinda should win hands down, she has the best voice, range and control, Jordin does runs a close second, and blake a distant third, really now how many times have you listened to a good song in your car and heard beatboxing, if youve said all the time well then you dont know good music when you hear it, beatboxing is NOT singing, if anything it belongs in a grammar school talent show following the guy that had just belched the alphabet.

    James,

This is why *I* don't watch AI. There's no fun in watching a show if you can't trust it to even a little honest. See Sanjaya.

    I was not a Melinda fan--sorry--she doesn't have
a neck! And it is a singing competition and it's
the whole package. She kicked butt on Nuttbush.
That was her clincher. She's the 1.

If Jordan goes, America is deaf and blind. When she sang her third song I got chills. She has a beautiful voices that has a tone of vulnerability that Melinda cannot match. Anyone who votes for Blake is from another planet. His voice does nothing for me or any of my friends. Melinda will win and she has a GREAT voice but my vote goes to Jordan. I would buy her CD. She is capable of singing any kind of music and she never misses a note. She also has a beautiful vibrato and she is beautiful also. I hope America didn't blow it like they did with Jennifer Hudson. But look where she is now.

The only comment I have for this season is "yawn". New judges, host, theme song, intro graphics might save this show unless it isn't salvageable. The Sanjaya fiasco sabotaged any credibility in the shows judging processes. Who gets all the money from the cost of the text messaging?

Melinda should be a shoe-in for this year. Even though Jordin is good I think she needs just acouple more years of pratice. And blake what can I say (nothing). What does Melinda having no neck have to do with her talent. Get for real

Ms. Idol - what a rude thing to say. Like Melinda has any control on her body structure. Good grief. I saw Melinda, Jordin and Blake on "The Tonight Show" and Leno asked if they read stuff about them online. Melinda said "No - I'm tired of people saying I look like Shrek". How sad is that?!?!??! People can be so stupid sometimes.....

Melinda has been the standout since Day 1. But I thought (until last night) that Jordin would be the pre-selected winner like Carrie Underwood was in Season 4. Now I'm not so sure. I think Blake did better than Jordin, but I think Jordin has better selling potential than Blake.

My guess is Melinda and Jordin in the finale. I wonder if AI will allow an "older" singer winning this year. Taylor may not have the CD sales but he is electric in concert and I think he's the best AI winner and the most versatile. We'll see what happens.....

FUNNY FOR SOMEONE WITH NO NECK SHE SURE HAS SOME KILLER VOCALS THE GIRL IS BAD...STOP HATING... YOU GO MELINDA YOU ARE AWESOME MA.

I like Jordon and Melinda,Blake is cute, but over-all I think he's a show-man and it seem's he prefer's rap.Melinda has a superb voice and has done good thru-out the competition.whether she realized it or not she can kick butt.R.Schmidt

Neck or no neck, Melinda wins HANDS down. She is the best vocalist they had. I don't care for Jordin. I think she is too immature and it shows. This should have been a Melinda, Lakisha finale with Melinda winning and Kisha coming in a real close second.

Melinda should win with Jordan second. Either way I am sure that both ladies as well as Blake will get a contract. I will by Jordan and Melinda. I don't think I would but Blake.
Hats off to who ever wins.
Before we judge someone else maybe we should all take a look at ourself. Bet there is something about ourself we don't like.

JORDIN IS NOT BAD.BLAKE HMM ALL HE IS ,IS SHOW BUT MELINDA IS THE BETTER VOCALIST. I THINK SHE HAS EXCELLENT STAGE PRESENCE. SHE WORKS THE STAGE LIKE A PRO HER DELIVERY NEVER FAILS. MELINDA'S HUMBLE SPIRIT AND VOCAL EXPERTISE REMINDS ME SO MUCH OF STEPHANIE MILLS. IF THIS CONTEST WAS BASED ON LOOKS,OR WHETHER SOMEONE HAD A NECK ....WELL I WONT GO THERE! I'LL JUST SAY THIS BIGGIE SMALLS HAD THE LADIES BEGGING HIM FOR "ONE MORE CHANCE" SO AH----MELINDA YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN DON'T THE HATERS OF THE WORLD GET YOU DOWN, IF AMERICA MAKES THE RIGHT CHOICE YOU ARE THE NEXT "AMERICAN IDOL" IF THEY SCREW UP I'LL STILL SEE YOU AT THE GRAMMYS MA BET THAT!!!!

I like Melinda very much, but Jordan gives me the chills. they both verry good,i wish both of them wins.I can't wait to buy cds from Jordan.

  • 18

Melinda will be just like Taylor - even if she wins, she won't sell CDs. Look around the music industry, is there any great & popular artist with no neck?

  • 19

Jordin is good, she is beautiful... but Melinda is the best, this is a singing contest not a beauty pageant. Starting from the auditions until now Melinda has showed a different kind of attitude, and she is a wonderful person. I know her being humble will make her the next American Idol...and she deserves it... cheers!!!
