It's Alive! (Last Traffic-Pandering Jericho Post. For Today.)
It's official: Jericho has been resurrected by CBS, seven episodes for next season. Says this afternoon's memo from Nina Tassler (read the whole thing at the CBS Jericho board, and thanks for the link, Becca):
To the Fans of Jericho:
Wow!
Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime time television series. You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard.
As a result, CBS has ordered seven episodes of "Jericho" for mid-season next year. In success, there is the potential for more. But, for there to be more "Jericho," we will need more viewers.
[Ed.: Plea for you to get all your friends to watch the show or else they'll cancel it again redacted.]
On behalf of everyone at CBS, thank you for expressing your support of "Jericho" in such an extraordinary manner. Your protest was creative, sustained and very thoughtful and respectful in tone. You made a difference.
Sincerely,
Nina Tassler
President, CBS Entertainment

To say that we are excited is absolutely an understatement! We have endured many obstacles and much ridicule. Many do not understand that it is more than saving Jericho. It is speaking out about something that effects you. To not be satisfied with what those removed from everyday life to tell us what we will have in our homes. Their ratings are dropping and they don't even know why. Reality shows and sleazy crime dramas do not appeal to everyone. In addition you have a tremendous audience that acts as their own programer by taking advantage new technology to watch television. They like science fiction and fantasy that thinks outside the box. We must be vocal on anything that affects us!

Over 100,000 signatures, 40,000 pounds of nuts, and countless e-mails, faxes, and phone calls later.. and we have our victory! We spoke, CBS listened, and now our show is being returned to us. How cool is that?
Don't let this news get to your head, though. We still have a lot of work to do recruiting new fans! Let's make sure CBS never regrets their decision to give in to their Jericho fans.

Let's see-next step, but my mom a computer, then force her to watch the remaining 21 episodes she did not see at my house. I think I can manage that. I can't wait to tell everyone the story of how the show was brought back and they can't help but want to see what they've been missing!

It's great to be a teeny part of this incredible story. Long live Jericho....

I'm so incredably proud of being a part of this movement. From the start when we had slightly over zero chance of it working I believed it would and never stopped. It's been a wonderful ride and even if I should get some sleep I'm all ready to go for part two.
I can't put words to the feeling of being part of something that's made history, and has changed the way things work. I love that we'll find out what happened past "Now" but the satisfaction is so much more.
It shows that you must do what you believe in and never give up about it. There is still room for individuals to band together and take back the power to decide what direction we're headed down the road.

Never seen "Jericho," but I'm glad its fans get another season. You gotta love the self-serving line in the letter from CBS about the "probably unprecedented display of passion" (i.e., "its our show that makes people act like this - aren't we cool"). Um, no. Hate to break it to CBS, but there are some pretty extravagant precedents out there. When "Farscape" went the way of the dodo, fans sent bras to the network (after the network prez suggested women didn't like scifi), got their own "Foxtrot" strip (complete with a crack about fan "petitions"), and wrote, directed, and aired their own ads for the show. Now *that's* a display of passion.

It looks like CBS is making good on its promises to give Jericho a fighting chance. Rerunning these episodes should help build the audience. I think it's a smart move to start with the pilot, then move on to the recap and the stronger episodes of the season that many missed. I'm also not going to cry about the Friday night time slot. Putting it between Ghost Whisperer and Numbers looks sound to me. I think CBS is really trying to make a go of it.
