Tuned In Pursues Happiness

Because we had to put the magazine to bed on the actual Fourth of July, TIME's Independence Day holiday is today. Meaning that today you, like the colonists, have won your freedom--from having to read any of my blathering blog posts today. God bless America!

Have a good weekend. And wish America a belated happy birthday with the bicentennial era's greatest TV celebration of civics. There's gonna be fireworks!

But James, we love your blathering blog posts! :)

I'm starting to come around to your view regarding JFC. I'm yet to watch episode 4, but my frustration level is hitting new heights after episode 3. Given the generally negative sentiment in the critic community about this show and the, presumably, lacklustre ratings, what do you think is going to happen to JFC; do you think it will last more than one season?

    Cheers,

Thank you, Danois, for responding to my thinly veiled plea for reassurance.

It's hard to read HBO's mind on renewals, as they don't always let ratings, or even critics' opinions, determine them. If a show is going gangbusters, they'll often renew it right around the beginning of the season. They didn't with JFC, so my guess is they are waiting to see if the response to the show turns around. I honestly think it has a shot--I don't think they've killed a drama after one season since K Street (unless you count Unscripted, which was sort of a comedy).
