Posh's Ratings Are In: Better Cancel That Robbie Williams Reality Show
I finally caught up with last night's rebroadcast of Victoria Beckham: Coming to America. I could offer all sorts of excuses for not having watched the original Monday broadcast, but the fact was, I just didn't care that much. In this respect, it would appear I am a true red-blooded American. Despite all the media buzz Posh's mini reality show got, less than five million people watched the show's first airing.
One could blame the show, which was contrived, warmed over, and simply boring--we've seen too many celebrities "exposing their real lives" (as set up and selectively edited by producers) for it to be interesting, or funny, to see Posh try to figure out how to throw one of those baseball thingies at a Dodgers' game.
But the quality of the show doesn't explain why so few people bothered to watch in the first place. Really, I think Mrs. David Beckham is another one of those British imports that fail to have the fascination for Americans that their packagers think they will. Much like the Spice Girls were, in fact. (Whether this bodes anything for her husband's attempts to bend the reputation of American soccer I'll leave to my footballing business colleague.) We have a whole country full of Hiltons; we don't need to import rich nitwits to embarass themselves for us any more than we need them to show us how to pitch a baseball.

I really enjoyed the show and didnt think I was going to. I think the general perception of Victoria Beckham is this frosty ice queen and this show showed her kind of snarky, British wit sense of humor and self-deprecating nature in a really endearing and charming way. Her coffeeshop confrontation of celeb blogger Perez Hilton, for me, goes down as one of the most genuinely funny moments in the history of reality television. A show like this if continued (which it likely will not be) could give Americans insight into two people with which the American public has little to no familiarity with.

This does not bode well for Beckhamania.
On her own, Posh is even less a celebrity than Geri Halliwell. The only thing interesting about her is her husband -- and interest in her husband can't be that great if all the effort being put into making the Beckhams into the next tabloid sensation in America isn't bearing fruit.
I mean, I bet a special on Katie Holmes would kick butt in the ratings....

Count me as another bloody Yank who couldn't give two hoots and a holler about Beckham, Posh and (ugh) soccer. Who cares?! That girl needs a serious Big Mac infusion.

Agreed Posh was great (or excuse me Victoria). Maybe I was just out of it but the reason I didn't watch in on first run was because I didn't know when it was on! I think the lack of TV during the summer probably hit the ratings hard because if you're not watching TV you're also not watching commercials for TV. I thought she seemed a lot more approachable and just nice after the special and she's totally not the 'ice queen' I thought she was. (I loved that she actually knows and that she looks like an ice queen in every picture and loves it!)

Victoria is infinitely more entertaining than US celebs - I loved her sense of humor and she didn't seem fake at all. She came across as far more intelligent and witty than American women like Paris Hilton and that whole set. And to think other critics made issue with her "self indulgence..." etc. As if other young women in Hollywood with that kind of fortune and fame *don't* shop and consume like she displayed.
It was truly sickening and embarrasing to see her hanging out with the plastic-surgery addicted Beverly Hills socialites. I cringed, it was so bad. I certainly hope Victoria doesn't think all Americans act like that. I wanted to vomit.
Am I the only person who thought her assistant is/was a total moron?

I thought Victoria Beckham was very witty and entertaining. I enjoyed the show. I hope to see more. Much more engaging and fun to watch than the repeat dramas of the drunk, rehabbed, rich spoiled american young of Hollywood.
I thought Victoria was light hearted and fun.
Bonus: hot husband!

The fact she even let her photo be taken in the same shot as Perez Hilton shows she has alot to learn about who is who in America. There is nothing like any association with Perez to drag you to the bottom of the celebrity pile. He is nothing but a scum bag who steals photogs work for his own benefit.
And Victoria, next time you see a camera pointed at you, PLEASE smile. Welcome to the good ole USA!

I saw the show and loved it. Posh is funny, clever and entertaining. I would watch the show regularly!!!
