Imus May Be Coming Back. Will His Cachet?
Don Imus has settled his breach-of-contract lawsuit with CBS over his firing in the spring and reportedly is negotiating to return to the radio this fall, perhaps with WABC. (Now his lawyers are freed up to deal with the defamation suit a Rutgers player has filed against him and his former employers.)
With Imus's return to radio looking more and more likely, the next question is whether he can regain the Beltway-pundit authority he had before the "nappy-headed hos" incident. Imus' transformation from shock jock into the host of a salty club for media honor students eager to be cool kids largely coincided with MSNBC's simulcasting of his radio show. It's possible he could return to TV, but it's worth remembering that he needed TV more (for the status) than it did him (for the money); his show earned far less, and drew a smaller audience, for NBC News than it did for CBS Radio.
I never much liked Imus either before or after the Rutgers incident. (Not just for high-minded P.C. reasons. His alpha-dog persona and the smug clubhouse atmosphere of the show irritated me; my TV diet doesn't leave time for much radio consumption except for a little NPR; and while I enjoy TV on the Radio, radio on the TV does not much appeal to me.) So I'm curious to hear from anyone out there who was a fan. Do you want him back? Do you want him to change? And would you want to see him on TV?

I don't know of any station that carries Imus in OKC and I never saw his TV show since I was at work. Back in '99 and '00, I was working on a project in Vermont and heard him every morning driving to work. I didn't care too much for his dry, cutting, pompous and aloof style.
The man is Fred Thompson ugly, I can't imagine wanting to watch him on TV.

No interest in Imus or his hateful show. The dude is arrogant, smug, and appeals to the worst in human character! But so are plenty of other people who get plenty of screen/air time... Down with Imus!

Yeah, OK he's arrogant and smug, but he was also one of a very small group in the MSM who was actually willing to ask tough questions of the journalists and politicians on his show.
In other words, he may be an idiot, but I'm willing to discount a large amount of idiocy in return for some actual content. Ever try to watch "The Today Show?" It's one big marketing circle-jerk.

I think that without the MSNBC (or some other) television simulcast the I-man will wither away. Remember, part of the appeal of his show was his regular guests, many of them culled from the NBC staff. I'm not sure that many of his usual contributors will want to return to Imus if he returns to the airwaves. Imus is still persona non grata; who is going to want to be first on the list to return to the old clubhouse? I think that many of his former guests are going to avoid him like the plague, and without the added support of a television simulcast, I think his return might be a lackluster one.

I would like to say thanks for referencing TV on the Radio. I never watched or heard Imus so I can't comment on him but TV on the Radio rules.

I listened and watched Imus for years and he was an equal opportunity insulter. Ever hear him go off on overweight, over age white women? I'm in that category and somehow it never bothered me because I figured he had a job to do and I have a sense of humor and a keen sense of who I am. Also, I always kind of admired his ability to talk to the big guys on his own terms and keep them coming back.
Then he raised an enormous amount of money for many of the same causes that I believe in. All in all, I was angry to see him go for something that I hold Bernie responsible for, and will be happy to see him back. I know that I am probably in the minority here, but that happens a lot to me. So, bring him on!

What is wrong with you people of course Imus Should be back on Tv.Millions of people miss him.
Us old people" 50 -60 plus" and there are a few of us out there, still like to see our demographic represented even the ones who have a quirky sence of humor and like to have a good time. Why can the young people have to make all
the decisions and edit out all the over 5os ...only to allow the boreing and the stonefaced, politicaly correct, droning commotosed stiffs who are our age have TV air time. Let Imus liven up the mornings again with his own reality ...maybe the people (who want to) could watch and lighten up.
