Vacation Robo-Post: Big Love Watch, DIY Edition

I'm on the road and probably lacking in HBO access, so I'm turning over this post for your postmortems of Big Love, which I will do my best not to read.

All in all, kind of a letdown episode for a season finale from what had been a truly great season -- especially after last week's epic episode.

It just felt like the whole Roman at Bill's house story line was rushed....and Bill totally got out-played. And it was also weird to have the Ana story resurface in the finale, it just felt kind of tacked on. And Sarah taking care of "business time" was also crammed in.

But the final result in which Bill v. Roman is now Bill v. Albie is promising...as Albie is one of creepiest guys on TV. And what to make of Nikki's betrayal?

Kevin_ATL, I had planned an entire diatribe, but I'm going to have to go with your assessment except I didn't even think that the season was all that great. It had it's moments, but for the most part I was disappointed after what had been an outstanding first season. But you are so right on the Roman at Bill's house situation, what the dickens? And the Ana mess, she and Bill dated for two weeks! She acted as if he left her with 3 babies. It was TOTALLY disappointing. I don't even know if I'll watch if they return next season.

What show are you watching? We got some closure for the Season 2 storylines and we were set up for Season 3.

Ana signed on to join season 3, so we know she will be back. Yes, she was tossed into this episode, I just wish we could have seen Margie and Ana reconnect. I liked the surprise element when the camera came around the corner to show who Margie was talking to. Surprise! It's Ana, little did I expect, but I was happy to see her. Margie has been desperate for a friend.

Barb spent season 2 regretting her decision to become a polygamist. She ran away in the first episode and has been rather cynical and passive aggressive all season. We see her snap when presented with Ana and Margie agreeing to be a surrogate. Barb grabs Margie, walks her to the neighbors house and decides to spill the beans. I feel like Barb is back on board.

Will the neighbors be tempted into taking on another wife? Since Margie will not be their surrogate, and Barb decided it was time to let them in on the secret, I wonder if the neighbors will explore Polygamy.

The storyline where Roman is at Bills house was rushed, but I did not expect Roman to do anything that Bill tells him to. Interesting that Bill decided to come clean with Roman, it was a good attempt at an alliance. Albie, now heading up the UEB, had Roman (and Joey) arrested as soon as they got to the compound. I expect Roman to spend season 3 in prison, or at least preparing for court, and hopefully Rhonda will pop back up to testify against him.

Sarah and Ben appear to be heading in different directions. Sarah decided to give up her virginity and pressured Ben into trying LDS. Ben feels he must follow the path of their father and I hope to see more tension between these two next season. We also see Sarah and Heather taunting Roman while he sleeps, mocking his love of young girls. I see Sarah moving farther and farther away from her family, but remember that Barb encouraged Heathers family to show Sarah LDS.

Finally, Albie gained control of the UEB and had Roman arrested while trying to return to the compound. Now we have Bill vs. Albie set up for season 3. I fully expect Nikki to add some great twists to next season.

It's not perfect, it's a TV show, and I'm looking forward to season 3.

At least we didn't have to deal with Frank--how he makes my skin crawl.

I found Barb's outing to the neighbors unbelievable. What prompted it--Nicki's mom's speech? I found it out of character, out of the blue, and disappointing.

I think Barb is accepting the fact that she is a polygamist. She has been regretting the decision all season and that was the moment she got back on board.

    I agree, Frank is creepy.

Where is this betrayal that Nicky is being accused of? Her telling Alby that Roman was coming was a "na-na-na-na" moment. She wasn't teaming up with Alby, she was mocking what she thought was Alby's comeuppance.

I thought Barb's outing to the neighbors was more an attempt to get back in control of the flock, so to speak, rather than as acceptance of her polygamous marriage -- I think Barb will continue to struggle with it next season, but of course, I could be wrong. She saw both Nikki and Margene grappling for too much power -- Nikki with her full support of their lifestyle, and Margene with Weber gaming -- so, spurred on by Nikki's mother's story about taking her role as "first wife," she had to do something that showed them she was still the "boss-lady."

This show has too many open stories going at once. The Rhonda story seems to be totally extraneous now, as does the Ana story (what was with her kissing Bill, and then we get nothing after that, anyway?). I find myself getting more annoyed than anything by the occasional appearance of these storylines. And what about Albie's latent homosexuality? That seems to have totally fallen by the wayside. The show just seems to be meandering without any real direction at all, and it seems like the characters, save Margene, aren't really developing at all.

I disagree, the characters are developing. There are a lot of open storylines and we are shown pieces of them. It gives the feeling of chaos surrounding a large, and non-traditional, family where several things happen at once.

I felt that Margie does like the "traditional" structure of a polygamist family and I hope to see more of Margie fighting for a more modern family structure.

True, Barb's outing could also have been a control move but I do not think she could have done it if she was not back on board with the path her family has chosen. I had forgotten about Nikki's mother giving Barb a pep talk.

Nikki is continually getting into trouble. Remember that box of money she stole? The party she decided to host without the support of her own family?

As for Albie, we do not need to see a homosexual story line, just knowing his tendencies is enough to let us know he is bad news and a fraud. Roman had his obsession with young girls and Albie has homosexual desires.

This show often shows up pieces and not a full story line to back it up but I feel the show works.
