I watched 2 shows in the 8:30 time slot, and they were both very funny. Aliens in America is very funny. Did I hear some of the soundtrack to the anime Akira in this episode? Anyway, I think I will start watching this. My wife even liked it.

Big Bang theory is also very funny if not predictable. I'm a pretty big superhero fan and if that Superman discussion didn't make you laugh then you might not want to watch this show. I know this kind of referential banter can get tiresome, but it kind of reminded me of Clerks when they discussed the subcontractors and the Death Star. Besides, the supporting cast of geeks are hilarious.

James - someone has to reference it, so I'll do it. Did you catch Chuck? Great scene where they are "testing" his recall of government secrets, and he blurts out "Oceanic Flight 815 was shot down..."

Gotta love a Lost reference on a show about a nerd.

@chaddogg: Yeah, NBC sent the first three episodes. I also liked the bit with Chuck getting talked through landing the helicopter by pretending it was a flight simulator.

Chuck really seems to make an effort to get its nerd verisimilitude right, more so than Big Bang. (Although I've heard, not that I'd know, that the math on Big Bang is pretty realistic. Maybe they poached a consultant from Numb3rs.)

I did like Chuck last night. For me, Chuck is not a great show, but it is funny and worth watching. The actors and characters are likable, and it has an interesting charm to it. The dinner scene was awkward and hilarious (him with the tablecloth flipping, Jayne (can't remember his name in this show, but Jayne from Firefly) with the candle-tipping, stomping the dessert in the bathroom), I loved watching the friend try to role-play with Jayne at work. Lots of clever touches, and good chemistry between Chuck and Sarah.

I also liked Journeyman. Last night's episode wasn't as action-packed as the premiere, but still interesting. I really like that as the guy tracks people's lives, his instincts to help them are pretty spot-on, and he helps steer them in tiny, tiny ways. But it reflects how every little thing in the past can have big ramifications in the future, and this is an interesting concept to work with. Like Chuck, I do not consider Journeyman to be a GREAT show. Neither of those shows are really WOW-ing me right now, but they're both just getting started and I think that both have a lot of potential once they find their groove. I can be patient, and hope that the networks can too!

Didn't have time to catch Aliens in America or Prison Break yet, something to look forward to.

Question: How can I watch the pilot of Reaper? I can't find it online or on iTunes. My husband bumped my watching that for him playing Halo3, so now I am behind on a show that I REALLY wanted to watch.

I know this isn't a sports-television blog, but I just wanted to mention how delicious I found it that the single-game play-in game between the Rockies and Padres last night managed to completely upstage and supplant the entire Monday Night Football broadcast and subsequent Sportscenter navel gazing (can't lead with the playoff game when we just had MNF!). ESPN is annoying more often than informative these days, so it was nice to see the event of the day upstage their network centerpiece for a change.

Liked "Aliens" but can't say it knocked my socks off. Granted, I was cleansing my colon at the time, so I may not have been in the most receptive frame of mind.
