The Morning After: The Night I Can't Remember

Dean Hendler / NBC
It's your Monday-night discussion post. Whose amnesia is more convincing: Christina Applegate's or Peter Petrelli's? Also, I'm eager to hear reports on Chuck--the first episode I hadn't seen on DVD--because not only did I not watch, I neglected to TiVo it. I claim amnesia! I may have to resort to Amazon Unbox, or microfilm rolled into a bottle, or whatever delivery method NBC is currently using having ditched iTunes.
I did, however, manage to make my date with Aliens in America, which showed that, if it's a one-joke sitcom, that joke has legs. (My favorite: Mrs. Tolchuck rushing to turn off a Woody Allen movie for fear Raja will feel uncomfortable--"It's set in New York!") Any other thoughts?

Chuck was entertaining but I'm getting kind of sick of them using the female lead as a sex object. But hey, she's attractive and your trying to get ratings. Panty shots do that I guess...

Chuck was okay last night. I hated the part when he found out about Sarah and Bryce. I didn't buy him being upset about it. Plus, who cares? He's dead.
Heroes kind of bored me for nth time. I enjoyed the Sylar storyline but then I realized that he's doing the same thing he did last season. But as least the Wonder Twins have meaning now.
I am interested in the mysteries so I won't stop watching. I think all I need is a week without Claire. And Kristen Bell finally arrives next week!!

I liked Heroes, even though the episode had no Hiro, Niki or Peter. It looks like we're at the "raising the stakes" part of the arc, which always allows for some Very Serious Cuts to Commercial.
Also, I think I'm changing my mind about Journeyman. It's more interesting than I gave it credit for initially. However, given an infinite amount of time (pun intended), I'd re-mix the shows to remove the "help this week's shlub" storyline, leaving the strongest part: his interactions with his family and his overarching mission (whatever that may be).

@ James: Chuck is on iTunes, isn't it? We've been dowloading them from there. . .
Re Chuck: Really liked this episode, I thought that Chuck was more upset that Sarah had out-and-out lied to him about the her-Bryce thing, rather than being upset that it had happened. It is an important part of their dynamic (his ongoing difficulties trusting a person whose whole identity is necessarily a lie). I loved their moment at the end when he was trying to get her to tell him one honest thing, I think that they are moving Sarah toward becoming a more well-rounded character (um, emotionally, I mean). I didn't think that Adam Baldwin had nearly enough to do, I think that he is an underused character who does the most with the lines he is given, but he is my favorite and I wish he had more to do. Morgan and Karina were hilarious - I am definitely appreciating Morgan more as the season progresses.
Re Heroes: LOVED it. Sorry for just gushing every week, but I REALLY enjoyed this episode, it is my favorite so far this season. Glad to have a break from the Peter-in-Ireland storyline, didn't realize how much I didn't even care about any of that until there was a nice, fake-Irish-accent-free episode. Glad to have a break from the Hiro-in-old-japan storyline too, even though I really like that one. I like the episodes best when they focus more on individual storylines, rather than touching base with everyone for a second. I really like Micah, it was really touching to see him trying to “fix” his cousin like he fixed the TV set. I can't wait to see what other abilities will be revealed in that part of his family - Linderman had noted how hard he had worked to bring Nikki and DL together, I assume that their families must both be pretty powerful.
The Claire-at-home scenes are shot in such a weird way, I really like the quiet strangeness of the family scenes. I am STILL not liking this creepystalkerboy West. And I am not sure I liked the paternalistic catching of Claire mid-fall from the Hollywood sign, it seems strange that he gets to “be” himself and use his powers, but he can't stand to see Claire use hers. Maybe the whole “I know you can heal but I just don't wanna see u get hurt” thing was sweet, but it seemed kinda hypocritical and controlling and overprotective (much like her dad in many ways). Zach woulda let her jump. Too bad he is busy saving the future on some other show.
Mohinder and Parkman are so cute being all domestic. So Parkman's daddy is a Big Bad? Interesting twist. His dad didn't look like a skinny dude, though, and the rooftop stalker of Kaito Nakamura looked pretty lanky to me. I am very interested to see “Sylar and the Wonder Twins Go To New York.” I'd also like to see Sylar try to hurt Maya. I don't think he'd fare very well.
Re: Journeyman: Got sucked back in this week. The wife is really getting on my nerves. My husband and I spent most of the episode complaining about how ridiculously unsupportive his wife is being. If my husband was a time-traveling savior dude, I'd totally be the Xander to his Buffy (my words. His were “you could be the Ando to my Hiro”, which I guess works a little better). I'd be doing research tasks while he was gone, working my ass off to cover his absences (plenty of fodder for some comic relief), and NOT complaining and whining and possibly wandering toward an ex. Yeah, it sucks that she can't count on him to be there, and she has to do some stuff alone, but my god she is supposed to be a strong independent female and all she is doing is angsting around. It isn't like he has a lot of control over the situation. Maybe I just don't like that actress, she has gotten on my nerves this whole time. And the brother is just obnoxious, I can't stand him either. I don't see the marriage/domestic situation lasting for very long if his wife doesn't get over her issues.

Seriously, the only thing that might save Heroes at this point IS Kristen Bell, and her superhero power of snark.
I mean, honestly, you could tell in the previews alone that she will be the best actor on this show by a MILE (all apologies to Masi Oka, who while fantastic, is in 17th century Japan and being wasted by the writers)...
And thankfully, she's being injected into the thus-far pointless Peter storyline...should be interesting to see how she fits in, if there are sparks between Peter and her character (my bet? Yes.), and how quickly they can get away from the fake-Irish (thankfully we were all spared their accents this episode).
Was anyone else secretly rooting for Sylar to eat the brains of the Wonder Twins? "Oil eyes of death or near death" is the world's worst superpower...

Chaddog: Actually, I think the original Wonder Twins' superpowers were worse.

@sharasays: Thanks for the reports! Last night's Chuck is not yet on iTunes, and I had thought I read last week that NBC pulled them after the first few went up for sale there, but maybe I just dreamed it.

Chuck is a Warner Bros. Television production so it's still available on iTunes, and doing very well in the absence of all NBC Universal productions. Chuck's pilot and 2nd episode were #6 and #9 on the chart last week.
P.S. Another enjoyable episode last night, but I preferred Chuck learning to tango, as all good spys should. Especially becuase Captain Awesome taught him the "girl" part.

Chuck was pretty funny this week, though its producers seem to think that drawn-out "hot chick fights" (there was one this week, there was one last week) are more interesting than they actually are. However, the "Miami Vice" suit was great, and I'll stick around for another week.
I don't know about Amazon's service (since I've got a Mac and the videos won't play for me anyways), but you can watch each week's episode on nbc.com for a week after airing. There's lots of annoying comemricals, and the video can be slow, but it's better than nothing (and it's free).

This week's Chuck did eventually get on iTunes!

chuck is still getting into its groove but i love the balance of chick fights and the relationships, i think all the characters are developing nicely, and i would love to see more adam baldwin but like that he's still a big stiff...
and chuck was totally upset about the lie more than the relationship... every time he thinks he can start to trust her...
