Rate It! Doing the Fall Season Reshuffle

Last week I asked what new fall shows you'd decided to stick with. Well, time passes and things change, and this seems worth checking in on weekly for a while. Are there any shows that last week convinced you to give up on? Shows you finally caught up with on DVR and decided to add? I'd reshuffle my list from last week thusly:

1. TMYLM
2. Pushing Daisies
3. Kid Nation
4. Aliens in America
5. Gossip Girl
6. Reaper

Daisies drops just a notch out of slight concern that it's a little too in love with its lovability. Kid Nation rises because I think it's better than its flash-in-the-pop-culture-pan treatment. And Chuck... it's not you, it's me. I'm not sure I have room in my weekly schedule for both it and Reaper, and for whatever reason, Reaper was the one I actually got around to watching this week.

Your turn now. Listify me!

    1. Pushing Daisies
    2. Chuck
    3. Life

Nothing else is worth the effort, as far as new shows go. If and when Sarah Connors Chronicles airs, I may tune in...

Returning shows currently airing on the TiVo list: Heroes (despite its problems), House, Bones, Boston Legal, 30 Rock, The Office, CSI, Friday Night Lights, Saturday Night Live, and Dexter.

Will be adding when they return: Lost, 24, The Wire.

I consider "Friday Night Lights" a new show, because I just discovered it via DVD this summer and it is TREMENDOUS. I'm really miffed at myself for not watching it last season. Anyway, for me it's a "new" show and No. 1 on my list.

    ***

    new Tivo-worthy shows:

    1. FNL
    2. Gossip Girl
    3. Pushing Daisies (but I'm leery)
    4. Chuck (fading fast)

    dropped after 2 eps:
    * Bionic Woman
    * Dirty Sexy Money

    my returnees:

Lost, The Office, 30Rock, Heroes, Always Sunny. Colbert Report, Curb

    Fall Season: None
My wife's fall season: Kitchen Nightmares

Current TiVo list: Heroes (all the while hoping they kill some people off), House, The Office, CSI, Friday Night Lights

My wife's list also includes: America's Next Top Model

Adding after Christmas: Sarah Connor Chronicles, 24, and of course, LOST

  • 4

Reaper, Heroes, Chuck, Dexter... now that I've found a way to download it.

  • 5

1.) Chuck (edges out Pushing Daisies only because...)
2.) Pushing Daisies (...I'm concerned about this budget cut I've been hearing about.)

Reaper is slipping semi-fast for me (though I haven't seen last night's yet), and I've been missing out on Kid Nation since Daisies debuted. But none of the other major network's new series are doing it for me, which is unfortunate after all of last year's good shows (Heroes, Jericho, Psych, 30 Rock, The Nine and Studio 60's [pilots, at least], Traveler [technically last year's stuff ;) ]).

  • 6

    1. Chuck (light spy-spoof entertainment with a lead actor who's much more appealing than slacker Sam of Reaper)

    2. Pushing Daisies (a little too stylized and precious for me but still an amazing visual experience)

    3. Gossip Girl (enjoy the snarkiness and cat fights but my interest is fading because I'm too many years out from the target demographic)

    4. Dirty Sexy Money (if it keeps the lighter tone of last week's sex tape episode)

  • 7

    1. Pushing Daisies
    2. Tell Me You Love Me. I fell way behind on this but caught up this weekend. Good stuff -- this show is much better in two- or three-episode chunks instead of once a week.
    3. Chuck
3a. Reaper. Tough to tell them apart (Wait, which one has the guy applying for the assistant manager position? Oh yeah.) Chuck gets the edge because it seems to be progressing as a series, while Reaper has just remade the pilot four times. Maybe if Reaper puts Missy Peregrym in a shorty robe I'll change my mind.
    4. Gossip Girl
    5. Dirty Sexy Money. Last week I was pretty proud of myself for noticing that in all of Peter Krause's TV shows (Sports Night, Six Feet Under and now DSM), his wife has been named Lisa. Also, I read that the actress who plays the youngest Darling daughter just checked into rehab. Ah, life imitating art imitating Paris Hilton's life.

I know it's not a new show, but how great was It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia last Thursday? I've had "Dayman" stuck in my head all week.

Forgot to include my must-see not-brand-new shows:

Mad Men, Friday Night Lights and House.

Can't wait for the return of:

    Lost and Battlestar Galactica.

    Until then I'll be watching:

    Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy

so I don't miss one of their occasional brilliantly-written episodes like last year's Bang on DH.

That's what this fall's newbies lack so far: great writing.

I only seem to watch TV on a few days a week. But Wednesday is my TV night! I watch Heroes on Monday .. but Wednesday I watch Kid Nation, tape Pushing Daisies, and then the rest of the night is filled with that lovely Ghosthunter's show on Sci-fi. I love that show...

  • 11

Personally, I laughed enough during Samantha Who? that i will watch it again next week. Looked promising.

Dirty Sexy Money, mainly because it fills my need for Arrested Development, and I love Samaire Armstrong (Juliet Darling).

I still can't decide whether I like Chuck or Reaper more...its pretty much week by week, since i know i'm going to drop one (or both) eventually.

I have to say that I doubt the validity of this concept, especially once the December doldrums kick in. That said:

    1) Pushing Daisies
    -And far less-
    2) Journeyman/Chuck/Reaper
Honestly, I am already getting tired of JCR's storyline of the week and watching them only for their brief continuing backstory, a contest Journeyman (I'm as shocked as you are) wins hands down this week with the lead's brother moving in on his wife, despite knowing that the lead is indeed time travelling.

    well let's see...

    Top New Shows:
    Chuck
    Gossip Girl
    Dirty Sexy Money
    Moonlight
    Pushing Daisies
    Big Bang Theory
    Carpoolers
    Reaper
    Private Practice

Cane is quickly dropping to a non watcher. i cant wait for january: new 24, Lost and of course ENTOURAGE.

i do want to see Samantha Who... i like the guy from 7th heaven and what about brian.

All in all, the best show remains The Office

  • 14

    Only Chuck and Pushing Daisies.
Gossip Girl and Dirty Sexy Money if I'm home with nothing else to do.

  • 15

Is it just me, or were there a bumper crop of new shows this season?

My new-show keepers so far are K-Ville, Bionic Woman, and (though I'm embarrassed to admit it, even anonymously) Moonlight. That last one is getting better with each ep.

I'm on the fence about Chuck and Private Practice; for now, I'm still watching, but I'm not yet confident I'll keep them.

I tried and quickly ditched Cane, Reaper, and Big Shots.

This week I'm trying Pushing Daisies and Life for the first time, after glowing recommendations from friends with similar tastes. When Sarah Connor Chronicles comes in January, I'll be tuning in.

And while the new shows sort themselves out, I'm keeping company with old friends: House, Heroes, Grey's Anatomy (though if George and Izzy wind up together, I may give that up), and Battlestar Galactica.

  • 16

Pushing Daises, Chuck, and Reaper remain in the background, but I don't make time to watch any of them.

My wife and I watch only two shows regularly right now:
    HIMYM
    The Office

I spend the rest of my time counting down the weeks until Lost returns.

  • 17

    My list is mostly unchanged.

    1) Life
    2) TMYLM
    3) Bionic Woman (I'd rather not watch it, but by 9pm on a Wed. I've run out of housechores, and it's on right before Life).

I'm curious what you think of Life, Jamie ... I haven't read any posts of yours about it, and it seems curiously absent from any critical comment. The only place I ever see it mentioned is in folks lists here - last week & now.

I'll have to make an effort to try & catch Pushing Daisies. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm hearing good things from friends at work about it.

  • 18

for new shows, this is my list:

Kid Nation (I'm with you on this one James)
    Journeyman

and that's it. I still have a Season Pass for Bionic Woman but I haven't felt like watching any of the episodes yet. I tried Reaper but was kind of meh about it. Pushing Daises is too twee for me.

For returning shows right now, it's Heroes, Survivor, and FNL (another newly-converted fan).

    keepers

    1) Pushing Daisies
    4) Chuck
    5) Dirty Sexy Money
    6) Journeyman

No, not a typo, I just love the show that much.

Can we talk about Samantha Who? What a disappointment that was. I felt like I had amnesia, did I miss any scenes with quiet dialogue that actually featured some characterization or exposition?

  • 21

    1. TMYLM
    2. Californication

To be honest none of the network shows caught my fancy this year. Even the ones I watched last year, Heroes, The Unit, NCIS, they just don't seem to be at the same level as they were last season. For me, Dexter, and the two new shows listed above are the cream of the new season.

  • 22

Reaper, despite in problem with advancing plot it still make me laugh every week.

Pushing Daisies (Havn't seed episode 3 yet)

    Gossip Girl

Dirty Sexy Money. I might drop DSM soon. Gossip Girl does a lot better job in owning its guilty pleasure attitude. DSM with Peter Krause can sometimes act to serious and isn't funny a lot of the time.

Chuck-I like this show but there something missing that I can't explain. Maybe it's because the cast in much weaker than Reaper's. I hope it stays the whole year but I don't know if I will.

TMYLM-It's not a show I look forward to but I am engaged with the characters problems whenever I'm watching it.

    New Shows I'm Still Watching:
Chuck: I think it's improving as it goes on, and I really like watching all the characters interact, and hopes it continues to improve and give us some more backstory. @ Chris Kw - I think that the Chuck cast is much stronger than the Reaper cast, adding a level of depth/complexity to the storytelling that Reaper doesn't yet have.
Reaper: It's kinda boring me at the moment, something is definitely missing - like maybe a compelling main or supporting character (other than Ray Wise, who totally rocks the house), but I like the concept so I'll give it a few more weeks.
Life: just caught up, think it has some potential.
Gossip Girl: I like it more and more every week, seeing TONS of potential there, complex and interesting characters. Last week's episode was top notch, IMHO. Can't wait to see last nite's episode when I get home today.
Journeyman: has a lot of potential, an interesting concept, and a really cool lead character
Back to You: I am staying caught up on this one, barely. It keeps me laughing more than most sitcoms of its ilk!

    Still watching old faves:
Heroes: yay! Loving this season, I think some good groundwork is being laid for episodes to come. Can't wait for Kristen Bell!
The Office: yay! This might be my very favorite show ever.
Supernatural: yay! now HERE'S a show about some demon slayage! And last week's episode with the creepy kids scared the crap out of me!!! Loving every second. Creepy rabbit's foot tonite, y'all!
Bones: not so crazy about this season so far, but hanging on out of extreme Angel loyalty.
HIMYM: actually just discovered this show within the past month and got all caught up - Legendary!!!!

    Can't wait for:
Lost, Battlestar Galactica; Sarah Conner Chronicles

    Top New Shows:

Gossip Girl - I thought this was going to be just a guilty pleasure but it the first thing I watch on my DVR!
    Pushing Daisies
    Aliens in America
    Reaper
    Dirty Sexy Money

I still watch the Thursday NBC lineup and love it, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, ANTM, How I Met Your Mother, and House.

On cable/premium I am loving Weeds this season and Mad Men. I'm looking forward to the return of Project Runway because Top Chef was disapointing this season.

Tell Me You Love Me is growing on me. I used to loathe the sexless couple, but I'm rooting for them more than the other dysfunctional pairings.
