The Morning After: Still in Bloom?

MICHAEL ROBERTS / ABC
It's a deadline day for me, so I'll leave it to you to weigh in on last night's TV, especially Pushing Daisies. If the press reports have been correct, this is about the point in the series where Warner Brothers locked Barry Sonnenfeld out of the bank vault to rein in the production costs--this on a show where the art direction is practically a lead character. Did it hold up anyway, or do we need to start passing the hat?
Quote of the week, by the way, goes to Kelsey on Kid Nation: "Just because he knows his presidents doesn't mean he's the best leader. I mean, look at George W. Bush. He's not smart at all, but he won the U.S. president two times in a row!"

Kid Nation was good last night and I loved Kelsey's line. I really laughed and got an ugly look from my Bush supporting wife. Taylor finally got her much needed come-uppance. I don't like talking that way about a kid. but it is true. We adults know who the brats are in our kids peer group and Taylor was a brat. I did feel sorry for Michael. He can be very annoying, but he does try to do the right thing. That had to hurt to not get a single vote from your tam and be so unaware. Maybe we could have another vote for Bush and see him lay his head on the table in shock too.
I still get the feeling by the vocabulary used and the phrasing that the kids are repeating what they hear beyond the camera.
Sorry, that was all I watched last night.

I've watched Pushing Daisies three episodes now and the 1st was brilliant. The 2nd was cloying and is it me, or is Chuck really necessary in every scene unveiling murder. Why does she have to ask every dead guy "what was your last wish" or whatever it is. Frankly, she's annoying me to the point I may tune out and tune in those even more annoying kids, not a good option. The point is - how many more times can we watch a dead guy/gal come alive, then die again. Perhaps, Chuck can be touched accidentally. Swoosie is the only really good thing going.

Anyone watch the 1st episode of the 3-part South Park that was on last night? The Saving Private Ryan homage was worth the price of admission alone.

Yes, I DID watch the South Park episode. It had alot of awesomeness (terrorists attack Imagination-land!). The Cartman subplot kept me cringing though: so very gross.
And while I wasn't amazed by the 2nd ep of PD, I thought the newest one was pretty great. It didn't feel as formulaic as the last one, and I just thought it was alot of fun.

You've got me thinking. (How dangerous.) I watched "PD" when I got home last night. Sensed I was forcing myself to go through it. Not that it was bad, not that they didn't advance the story, but more like, Yes, I get it, and so what? And I then started thinking about other shows I've been watching lately. A minute ago, I turned on the DVR and erased "Life" and "Dirty Sexy Money." Not because they're bad, but because they just don't feel necessary to me at the moment. Other dominoes are primed to fall shortly.

Pushing Daisies and Ugly Betty are the only shows that I look forward to watching every week. Last night's episode of Pushing Daisies was especially awesome, with the sword fighting and the Chinese Confederate soldier and his descendant.

This was my least favorite episode of Pushing Daisies. That's not to say I didn't like it, just that it wasn't as good as the first two. I thought the sword fight was a bit unnecessary (I am always perplexed by on screen sword fights where the goal seems less to impale your opponent and more to cover every conceivable horizontal inch of the battle ground. Without the potential of a violent bloodletting I just find them silly.
I did like the Pooh reference only because that's the kind of thing I think when I watch TV and it was nice to have Chuck say it.
The dialogue is still what's keeping this show at the top of my list. I love the stylized speech and how well the characters work with it.
