Corporate Press Release Theater: NBC Announces "Green Week" Lineup
This past summer, I wrote, then wrote some more, about NBC's plans to devote a week of programming, November 4-10, to episodes of its shows with environmental themes. I pretty much exhausted my supply of cheap Deal or No Deal jokes then, so I'm just going to recycle a few highlights from the press release. 100% not made up!
JOURNEYMAN
...While in the past, Dan educates a stunned cab driver on the wonders of recycling...
THE SINGING BEE
...'Green' surprises are in store as contestants are challenged to accurately sing the lyrics to popular songs that touch on this subject matter...LIFE
...Meanwhile, Crews' dream about solar panels prompts him to want to buy a solar farm...30 ROCK
SPECIAL GUEST STARS OSCAR AND NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER AL GORE, MEREDITH VIEIRA, AND DAVID SCHWIMMER JOIN IN ON '30 ROCK'S' GREEN INITIATIVE -- As part of a GE-wide green initiative, Jack (Alec Baldwin) has come up with the idea of creating a green mascot for NBC -- a "Phillie Phanatic" -looking character named Greenzo...DEAL OR NO DEAL
KERMIT THE FROG GUEST-STARS AS 'DEAL OR NO DEAL' GOES 'GREEN' Mandel rid[es] a cruiser bike into the studio with the 26 models, all in dresses made from army surplus parachutes, on bikes behind him! Then Keisha Brown from Jacksonville, Arkansas returns to finish her game and Danny Pecoraro of Brooklyn, New York has a surprise supporter when Kermit the Frog joins his support bench...
I kid NBC, but who knows? Sometimes daffy command performances result in the most creative work. (Seriously, I bet 30 Rock knocks it out of the pesticide-free park.)We'll see how it shakes out during Green Week itself, when I'll blog some of the results. And I promise to expend 33% less energy than usual writing my reviews. To save Mother Earth!

What about Heroes?
I see a character who can instantly put out fires.... he seems like a good guy at first, but at the end of the episode it turns out he's a baddie when he suffocates someone --- he accomplishes his feat by sucking all the oxygen from a room, and converting it (HORRORS) to carbon dioxide!!!

@p_luk: There is a green Heroes! Flyboy is a conservationist, apparently--
HEROES (9-10 p.m.)
WHILE SEVERAL HEROES FACE OFF AGAINST THE "NIGHTMARE MAN," PETER LEARNS JUST HOW DEADLY THE VIRUS CAN BE... As West (Nick D'Agosto) helps with some energy-saving fixes around the house, Claire (Hayden Panettiere) hopes he doesn't stumble on a photo and learn that the man who kidnapped him as a child is her father (Jack Coleman)... -

Just reading the name Greenzo makes me laugh...

The Journeyman and Life descriptions made me cringe. How can it not feel forced to have these messages inserted into scripted shows?
But I have to say that the "30 Rock" episode sounds pretty wonderful. -

Gotta love the hypocrisy of NBC. They turn out the lights, yet they have unnecessary tv's all over the studio on the whole time, as well as giant tickers. They also have a huge, lit Toyota add glaring on front of their desk. Guess if someone's willing to pay, NBC's willing to sell out. Of course, I'm sure all of their on-site reporters rowed, used solar powered vehicles, or rode animals to their destinations, because they have told us time and time again of how horrible air travel is for the environment. Luckily they don't all go home to their larger than average and larger than necessary climate-controlled homes at the end of the day and turn on unnecessary electronics. Anyone want to stake your paycheck on the notion that not one of them drives an SUV and in fact all of them drive battery powered or solar powered cars? God bless them for practicing what they preach.

THINK GREEN: I think it's extremly important for the young people in this country to see celebrity's and t.v. shows expressing the importance of Green Week; recycling, keeping our Earth clean, re-using, instead of wasting, cutting back on electricity usage, etc. The children of today will be the teachers, workers, politicians, and even presidents of tomorrow and if they start learning about these things from people other than their teachers at school, becuase, let's face it, our country is obviously facing a major crisis when it comes to what our Earth will be like in years to come and, our country also has a major obesity problem, which means people (adults and children) are sitting on the couch at home watching t.v. for a majority of their time...so why not learn while watching? I think NBC's line-up of shows sponsoring Green Week is wonderful! Thank you NBC!
