The Morning After: Snipe Hunt

K-Ville, Journeyman, Dancing With the Stars: you name it, you can post about it here. If you watched any program on NBC last night (a Heroes Watch is forthcoming), didja happen to notice that PHENOMENON is PREMIERING this WEEK?

By now I'm used to "snipes"--the little in-house show promo ads at the bottom of the screen during other programs--but this one, featuring a little white bird winging its way across the screen, especially annoys me. Mainly because, every time it runs--like last night during Chuck (sweet episode)--I think an actual bird has entered the action of the episode.

One night soon I'm going to park myself in front of the TV with a gun full of birdshot and go Dick Cheney on the little bastard. Pull!

Best episode yet of Chuck (was it me, or was EVERYONE'S comedic timing off the charts last night?).

And best episode this season of Heroes: less of Claire's flyboy and the Wonder Twins, more Peter & Hiro, an awesome fight/nightmare scene between Parkman and Nathan, and, most importantly - Kristen Bell, who as predicted made herself the most interesting character on the show this season in just three scenes last night. While I'll always wish she had been pulled into the Lost-iverse as opposed to the Heroes-iverse, I'm just happy to have her back on TV.

(Oh, and James - I give Phenomenon 2 episodes, tops. Seriously, who wants to watch amateur magicians? Or Criss Angel? Or Uri Gellar?)

Couldn't stay up for Journeyman. All week they have been doing the previews of him jumping "at the worst possible time" (that is, when he is out in a crowd with his kid). Sounds like bad planning on his part, and I just wasn't interested. I just don't think I can keep up with Journeyman this season. I'll rent the DVDs whenever they come out, probably.

Chuck, on the other hand, was really good! I loved it, it was sweet and funny, his sister totally rocks. I liked their Mothers' Day tradition, I thought that this episode did a good job of advancing character development. Morgan is getting more and more likable as the season continues. I like that Chuck is getting a little more competent at managing the spying and the lying. I did miss Captain Awesome, though. I still don't think that Adam Baldwin is being given enough to do - he generally just growls and manhandles people.

And agreed - I'm SO SICK of the phenomenon previews. I also thought that the stupid bird was part of the action - the Phenomenon graphics took up nearly half the darn screen! And the same preview over and over. And the stupid Bee Movie things. Sick of them!!!!

"Chuck" graduated from probation status last night. "Journeyman" continues to find interesting ways to develop the concept, so I'll stick with it for the remainder of its existence (which I estimate to be three weeks, getting shelved for sweeps and quietly canceled). Somebody let me know if "Reaper" ever turns around. "Life" and "Dirty Sexy Money" continue to not matter to me, although I acknowledge that they don't suck. If I had more free time, I'd watch them.

Anybody else watching "Five Days" (HBO)? I can't really recommend it, in the same way that I wouldn't recommend "Death of a Salesman" -- it's very tough sledding. But if you can handle unhappy people and unresolved questions, this is first-rate.

I too was unimpressed by this week's Journeyman previews, but when I watched it the episode pleasantly surprised me. I know it's basically Quantum Leap, but I love Quantum Leap, so I don't care. I wish the show was more focused on the people he was helping instead of his family though because that's the most interesting part and of course what I most liked about Quantum Leap.
