The Morning After: Damages Spoiler Fiesta!

Damages wrapped up last night, but I didn't, as I'm still two episodes behind on the show. Don't let me stop you, though; chat away. I'll be on the other side of the room, singing loudly to myself, with my fingers stuck in my ears.

I really hope DAMAGES gets renewed for a second season. I would love to see Ellen get back at Patty Hewes for trying to have her killed. I don't know about anyone else, but that fact came as a surprise to me. I really enjoyed this show and I appreciate the fact that you actually post about it. Not many other sites have.

I loved the finale and I seriously hope FX makes the right decision and renews the show. Last night they opened up a whole new source of plotlines for a season two.

There were too many shocks to count, but the biggest for me was the bearded killer being a cop, the fact that Ellen was attacked by someone who wasn't a Frobisher hood and the fact that Patty did in fact try to have Ellen killed. Whew!

    I now need to recover.

I would pay to watch Glenn Close read a phone book. Every episode (even the un-even ones) was superior to most everything else on any channel. Loved the tone, the cinematography, hating Ted Dansen, etc, etc.

One question: Who the hell is (was) Julia? Was she Patty's daughter conceived by Frobisher 35 years earlier at a drunken frat party that he has now forgotten? Did I miss that?

"There were too many shocks to count, but the biggest for me was the bearded killer being a cop, the fact that Ellen was attacked by someone who wasn't a Frobisher hood and the fact that Patty did in fact try to have Ellen killed. Whew!"

are we sure that it was Patty that tried to kill Ellen....the ending tried to make it appear that way, but we've seen the "shaking in a chair at her beach shot" be used as a red herring at least twice already...

PLUS, I seem to recall that it was Froebisher's men that discovered the body and did the clean up....

    ***********

BTAIM.... the finale was deeply flawed by its continual use of flash back/flash forward ---

and I still have a hard time believing that David didn't break under torture, and at LEAST tell the killers about the locked file drawer...

...and while the idea of Ellen working for the Feds to catch Patty in wrongdoing is an intriguing premise, all Ellen really has to do is request immunity and tell what she knows about the Froebisher case to bury Patty. (She'd definitely get immunity, given that she is a small fish and a new hire.)

in other words, while I love Glenn Close (and thought Željko Ivanek was just as good) I thought the show was a major disappointment.

    Johnny...
the whole "Julia" thing seems to be a set up for next season.

Speaking of her family, the whole thing about Patty's son not wanting his parents to know he'd come home also looks like its for next season. I was kinda hoping that the big secret was that Patty and Froebisher's sons were boyfriends... and that further resentment of Patty would be expressed because her crusade against Froebisher meant his boyfriend had to move away...

I, too, was disappointed in just about everything about this show (except Ted Danson). I was hoping that the season finale would be so exciting and shocking that it would redeem the series, but it simply wasn't. The only big surprises the show ever has are when they lead the audience to think something is going to happen because of flash-forwards, but then they are red herrings. Such surprises leave the audience simply saying, "oh...that's what that meant..." rather than being truly surprised and engaged.

And the Julia thing...besides the fact that they totally could have just left that until next season, yet again they were trying to build suspense by showing the scene over and over before the reveal. How about trying to build suspense by actually having something be suspenseful? FX can do better.

Never seen Damages, didn't find it appealing so skipped it completely.

I thought that Reaper last night was the best episode since the pilot - finally felt a bit of forward momentum. I really want Andi to be in on the demon-catching, I bet that she would be a KICK-A$$ sidekick, and I am officially sick 'n' tired of the whole Lana Lang Syndrome ("Why can't you just be honest with me? Why can't you just tell me your deepest secrets? I just can't trust you 'cause you keep a secret"). I was glad to finally see more of the Dad's character coming out, very interested in the exact terms of the agreement (esp. what dad was burning in the fireplace at the end). Was that Chief from BSG who brought the contract?

I missed Bones (well, I wouldn't say that I "missed" it, per se!), this season has been so underwhelming thus far. No sparks, everyone seems subdued, dropping potential ongoing storylines like they're hot, Booth is so getting on my nerves with his conservatism nonsense. I am now only watching out of undivided Angel loyalty for Booth and Hodgins. Actually, it may not even have been on last night, I never did really check - if it was, I guess I'll catch up later.

    Yay, Gossip Girl tonite!

Damages has been the greatest show on TV this year, but the ending disappointed me though, it wasn't so much about putting the first season puzzle together , but rather to pave the way for a second season.

It seems a little bit unrealistic that Patty would kill Ellen, the Julia part had absolutely nothing to do with the first season, why even put it there? Why was Ellen so sure that Patty had tried to kill her, just because Patty flinched when Ellen showed remorse? It should have made perfect sense to Ellen that it was Frobishers guy that came to the apartment.

They should have just wrapped the first season up and started all over again in the second season, as they did with Sleeper Cell.

A lot of interesting comments here; I hope you'll do a wrap-up on Damages when you get around to watching the final episodes, James.

I just watched the Damages finale last night. I think Patty did try to have Ellen killed. Wasn't that Pete that let the guy off the elevator in Patty's building? And, how would anyone else have access to the apartment for cleanup? So, I think when Patty is shaking in the beach chair, it is after talking with Pete ("It's done"). And, she feels the loss of Ellen like her still-born daughter Julia so that leads her to the grave.

I'm still not sure why Patty son was in the apartment or if Froebisher actually dies. He didn't seem to be mortally wounded so it's a question mark. That's what will make the tape in the DA's hands interesting for next season. Also, there does seem to be a hint that Patty deeply hates Froebisher and maybe it has something to do with the past. Maybe she was part of that car accident where the girl died with Froebisher and that caused the still birth? Just a guess..

I thought this was the best show on TV this year. Amazingly, none of my friends watched it! Let's hope it comes back!

Patty's unborn daughter, Julia, had nothing to do with Frobisher or anything like that. Patty's losing her just accentuated her guilt over ordering Ellen killed. After all, Ellen is probably very much like the daughter Patty imagined she would have. That's why she was seen almost having a breakdown after she left town.
