The Morning After: All My Rowdy Friends
I've reached my peace with Chuck: I like it, but don't feel compelled to watch it every week. So I'll let you do that for me. Or update us on The Big Bang Theory, the Bachelor season that I've totally ignored or--hey, we never talk about Monday Night Football! I understand from Friday Night Lights that that's a sport, correct?

Snark if you must, but Monday Night Football apparently was hot enough last night to have me woken at 11:30pm by my screaming 15 year old son in glory of his Packers...! Trouble is, MNF goes so late it practically turns into Tuesday Morning Football....

James, Chuck got the official "series delete" from my DVR last night. I have a Monday 8 pm quandry....I also record HIMYM and Chuck. But recently I caught some re-runs of "Aliens In America" and I like that show enough that my 8 pm recordings will now be HIMYM and AIA, followed by Heroes at 9.
I'm with you, I like Chuck, but since all the eps are similar, and it's not a serial plot, I don't feel bad about missing it.

Chuck is getting into the picking-up-steam mode - character development, relationships, etc. I really enjoyed last night's episode, the chemistry among the characters worked really well. Chuck gaining confidence in his spy role, plenty of good Captain Awesome scenes, LOVE the Morgan Makeover. I appreciated the sweetness of some of the Chuck-Sarah moments. Plenty of good Adam Baldwin scenes: doubleyay! Chuck's don't-trust-the-crazy-guy decision at the end: yay!! The show has been good, but hasn't yet branched out into the extended plot arcs that could tie the season together - but from the previews for next week it looks like we'll start getting more backstory/mystery too - which is exactly what this show needs to take it from a one-trick pony to a show with some actual staying power!!
Sorry, just not all that into Journeyman. In the weekly battle between Journeyman and sleep, sleep won out yet again. Sorry Tommy from Trainspotting, it isn't you, it's me.

Thank god for Captain Awesome - easily one of my favorite characters on television this year. I'm liking Chuck quite a bit, but I agree, it'd be nice to see it branch out a bit beyond the "crazy terrorist of the week" storylines. In fact, it looks like next week, with Chuck heading back to Stanford or some type of flashback (with Chuck "flashing" on himself?) that we'll learn some important backstory, namely why Bryce got Chuck kicked out of Stanford, and why he sent the email to Chuck in the first place....yes, it appears that sweeps is soon upon us.
As for Heroes....I'm really losing patience. In fact, reading the TV Guide recap this morning, it seems like I missed a ton of stuff - I must have zoned out or something. It might have had to do with the lack of Kristen Bell - I can't be sure.

A couple of days late with this, but surely this season's Curb Your Enthusiasm deserves a mention, if not a watch. How awesome was it Sue Ellen Mishki, the Braless Wonder from Seinfeld, made a guest appearance? Best season in years.

I think Chuck comes off a lot better if instead of thinking of it as "a normal guy thrown into a spy movie", but rather "when a spy movie leaks over into reality".
The humor plays off a lot better when you realize that the *agents* are having to adjust to the more mundane problems of the average person as much as Chuck is having to deal with the whole head fulla secrets thing.
The final scene with Casey twitching as he eavesdrops pretty much brought that home.

In the "It Takes All Kinds" department, I have to disagree with you about Chuck, which along with Pushing Daisies has become my new Appointment TV designee of the fall season. And actually, a big part of those shows' appeal for me is their resistance to serialization: these days, a witty hourlong show that doesn't require bookend viewing in order to keep up is a treasure. Plus, Chuck somehow reminds me of an updated version of The Greatest American Hero, a guilty pleasure of my junior high days.

@Erich: I'm not sure I disagree with your assessment of Chuck, except that, for me, a witty hourlong show that doesn't require bookend viewing in order to keep up is something to gladly watch in reruns later. House is a prime example of this for me.

I can't disagree with the general characterization of Chuck, it's not an obsessive serial show and that's one of the reasons that I like it... I tuned into this on Tivo after watching CBS comedies at 10 instead of Heroes because I wasn't up for keeping up... I do think Chuck has a little more depth and development that puts it in another league from say, Reaper. I am looking forward to next week's Bryce episode as well.

From the promos during the summer, I thought Chuck would be an interesting show. But... it turned out that I like the Big Bang Theory. Yesterday's episode involved a somewhat sweet moment between Leonard and Penny. When she said "why can't all guys be like you?" and Leonard said "because that would mean doom the continuation of the species."(or something like that)
I almost hate the fact that I actually understand all the geeky babble that goes on. Doppler Effects, acceleration in feet per second per second, all the science talk makes me feel like perhaps I should've had more fun in high school.
That being said, at least I didn't know the difference between hobbits and elves. hahah. I thought Leo was a gentleman in that he seemed to control himself and not take advantage of a drunk Penny. One of the other four, on the other hand, seemed to have taken advantage of a drunk girl, which I kinda didn't like. Although, I'm sure the drunk girl was the initiator.
