A blog about television by TIME’s TV critic James Poniewozik.

Happy Halloween, Detroit! Hiya-hiya-hiya!

In my Halloween-TV post earlier today, I mentioned local horror-movie hosts and yet inexplicably omitted The Ghoul--

-- Detroit's (and OK, Cleveland's) premier bizarre horrormeister of my youth. (Apologies, Sir Graves Ghastly.) The Ghoul and sidekick Froggy, my Midwestern readers may be glad to know, are now kicking it online, with a paid webcast to boot.

OK, time to take the Tuned In Jrs. trick-or-treating. Trade me your Milk Duds!

    James

I love how you are from the same region as me. Back in the day my dad (currently 60 years old) was known as The Ghoul because he looked so much like him. He even has a Ghoul bumber sticker on the back of his car (Old, rusty Aerostar actually. It's things like that which make me happy I am from Michigan.

I actually have an off topic question that I should have posted in the TMYLM watch but here it is anyways:

When does HBO's next slate of original programming begin. I mean, TMYLM and Curb end in a couple weeks and I havn't heard anything about upcoming shows. I was kind of hoping In Treatment or 12 Miles of Bad Road would premiere in November. Please don't tell me they are taking a couple months off from orignial shows. I am already bummed out by the fact that BSG isn't coming back until April. I love Cable but sometimes they can piss me off with their scheduling.

Bad news, Chris. The next new series come in January--The Wire early in the month, and In Treatment at the end of the month. (In Treatment runs every night of the week, so I suppose it could benefit from an extended writer's strike, assuming it's in the can.) There are some upcoming original movies and the Extras finale special in December. I don't believe there's a premiere date yet for 12 Miles of Bad Road but it's entirely possible I could have forgotten.

You know, I was thinking the same thing earlier about In Treatment when I was commenting about the strike. If any network could benefit from a strike it would be HBO. And maybe it will help The Wire in the ratings and in recognition at next year's Emmys. Hey, a guy can dream.

Okay. Just read a Variety article spelling out how In Treatment will be scheduled (Monday-Friday). So, I think that means 12 Miles will be airing on Sunday before The Wire.

Best horror show host: Svengoolie (aka Jerry G. Bishop) who hosted Creature Features in Chicago in the '70s.

JP -- ask Maureen Ryan if she remembers him.
