Joss Whedon Gets New Show! Cancellation Watch Begins!

The good news: Joss Whedon has a seven-episode deal to make a new series, starring Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Faith).

The bad news: it will be on Fox, the same people who brought you, then immediately started doing their damnedest to un-bring you, Firefly.

Let's savor the good news for now, though, shall we? The series, Dollhouse, is a sci-fi serial about a group of young people working for an organization--its nature and purpose aren't yet clear--that wipes their memories clean and reprograms them before sending them on assignments. The "Dollhouse," says zap2it.com, is the "lab/dorm" the "dolls" live in between missions. Dushku plays a doll who begins recovering memories and seeks to find out who she really is.

Let the unreasonably high expectations and premature pessimism begin! In the meantime, you may want to go ahead and register savedollhouse.com.

Wow, that's amazing news amidst the doom and gloom of the strike.

Is this Eliza Dushku's way of saying "sorry I didn't want to sign on for Buffy Season 8"?

Eliza Dushka = awesome. However, the way Whedonites talk of Whedon as if he were the God of television has annoyed me ever since Buffy went off the air. If I didn't already know that his fans will treat this like the second coming, I might look forward to it.

Might be a good show. Following the link, my immediate question is who writes a story about Joss Whendon and Eliza Dushku, and decides on a photo of Whedon?

I am SO FREAKING EXCITED!!! This was the best tv news that I have heard in a long time. And yes, J, I do believe that Whedon is the God of Television - he is my very favorite storyteller. I have thoroughly enjoyed all his series and all his graphic novels, and I just can't wait to see what he does with this new series. Second coming, indeed! I just can't believe that he is working with FOX again - I thought he had pretty much committed to never dealing with them again. I just hope FOX behaves itself better this time.
