The Morning After: Radar Love

Jack Rowand/The CW
If Reaper is turning out basically to be just a procedural with damned souls, it's at least a pretty charming procedural with damned souls. Last night's "Love, Bullets and Blacktop" episode didn't venture into especially new territory, but it did capture the show's laid-back appeal, from the lengthy bachelorette-party opening sequence to the episode's whole love affair with '70s music and technology. Is anyone out there still sticking with it?

I haven't gotten around to watching the new one yet, but I've been enjoying it so far. Last week's Patton Oswald ep was quite fun.

One member of House's team "quits" after unethical behavior and another one is hired because she likes how House sticks it to the man. Meanwhile a patient has heatstroke that looks like polio and a CIA agent had too many Brazil Nuts.
Yawn.
Pick a team already and start geniously finding those diseases that only 12 people have had in the history of humanity again. Please.

I was about to give up on Reaper until last week's episode, and I liked this one just as much. Especially Ben's reason why he couldn't strip for the bachelorette party: "Not for free -- I'll lose my union card." I still don't understand why the devil let Sam enlist Ben and Sock in his soul-catching posse, yet he's not even allowed to tell Andi (or anyone else, really), but whatever. Make me laugh and all is forgiven.
No Pushing Daisies tonight because of the Country Music Awards. I'll be passing on that. As pretty as she is, Carrie Underwood needs to get the hell off my TV screen.

Great show, but needs to shake things up a bit. Play with the formula instead of the same basic plot each week. I also would like to see Sam get the girl or a girl from time to time like last night's ep. Always screwing up the love life is too sitcom-y.

I enjoy it. Its nothing more than just simple fun. It would be great if it was something more, but it makes me smile and it makes me laugh. That's enough for me.

It just confuses me a little why they're doing so little with it. It has a similar premise to Chuck, but may have even more possibilities to explore than Chuck does. But Chuck grows each week, giving us more backstory and more character development, and quite a bit of humor. Reaper remains stagnant, rarely allowing the characters, who are less likable, to grow, and barely even including any real humor. It's a real disappointment.

I have given up on REAPER. While it's a cute show, there's just no real "there" there, if you know what I mean. It's the same cute thing over and over. To nearly steal a quote from HEATHERS, I don't have anything against it, but I don't have anything for it, either.

Yeah I'm still there. I can't argue with the criticism and I often offer up much of my own, but I still like the complexity of the relationship between sam and the overly tanned satan... i'd like them to do more with other aspects of the show but...

Reaper's characters of Sock and Satan are soooo much fun. Although Reaper is similar to Chuck, there definitely is more potential for exciting and fun storylines with this show. A couple of weeks ago they teased us when Sam's father tore a page out of the contract with the Devil. There seems to be a great story line there, they just haven't done anything with it. I'm all for the writers' getting their due, but hopefully the strike won't slow down any steam this show is building.

The plots are nothing to write home about -- seems like you can time the devil's first appearance with a stopwatch at 5 minutes in, but you're right, James... it still is pretty fun to watch. I'm just hoping for a little more there *there.*

I've said it before, Kevin Smith has hinted at bigger things in his Podcast. I think they are just trying to get us interested similar to the way that the X-Files did in it's early days.

It's a cute little show--not as amazing as Pushing Daisies, but fun to watch nonetheless.
I think the actors who play Sam, Socks and Ben make a fab trio. Watching them interact with one another is the best part of the show. I find the devil quite amusing as well, although you have to wonder how he has time to be giving Sam love advice when he probably has other "bounty hunters" he needs to be working with.
My one grievance--the actress who plays Andi is terrible. Her performance falls flat every time. I don't see what the attraction is for Sam and was really hoping that there'd be a love connection between him and Taylor last night.
