The Morning After: Trading Daisies for Fertilizer

Tuned In's Pushing Daisies contingent will have to carry on without me for now; I was watching the CNN/YouTube Republican debate live. (John McCain: "Life is not 24 and Jack Bauer." They're not going to like that at Fox.) By the way, Molly Shannon and Mike White? It's a Year of the Dog / Cracking Up reunion!

Did anyone else watch Gossip Girl last night? I thought it was the best episode yet, in terms of compelling storylines coming together and character development. Last night was, also, the first night that my husband finally acknowledged that this show is turning out to be quite awesome. So many little hidden bits of strength and weakness coming to the forefront (like Blair dealing with her eating disorder - as a recovering bulemic I was nearly in tears watching her binge and purge, trying to find comfort in the one thing she could "control", and Nate effectively standing down his parents with love and compassion). I love that so many folks had been dis-invited to the Waldorf Thanksgiving Party. The Humphrey Family Thanksgiving Debacle was brilliant (but where was Vanessa? she has never missed a chance to butt in on Dan's life before, I couldn't believe that she didn't force herself on the gathering on general principle). I still hate Dan's stupid mom, though. More Lily!

The best part of the episode, though, was that all the families made a major breakthrough, and we saw the first glimmers of true communication and honesty among the generations. Its like the kids, through their lifestyles and experiences, grew up faster than their parents expected them to (even though their parents have done nothing but push them toward that), and now they have these little psuedo-adults who can relate to them on a human level, and neither side had realized that they could have that kind of connection. And each little victory felt both sincere and hard-won after the lies, betrayals, and bullcrap of the last several weeks.

Reckon it'll last? Proby not. But it was really nice for once!
