"You Gotta Throw Our People a Bone"

My shameless bit of boasting about the season 5 Wire screeners HBO just sent out seems to have struck a nerve. Maybe we need to have a mini Wire Discussion Group to get us limbered up before the series returns on January 6. In the meantime, this HBO preview that gives the slightest taste of the new season, which is going to focus on the role of the press (or its abdication of the same) in the rest of the institutional failures the show has chronicled.

How far can you get on a lie?

Is anyone else re-watching the DVDs of seasons 1-4 in preparation? I am. Probably would be even if there wasn't a crippling writers strike limiting my options.

How far can you get on a lie?

shouldn't you be asking Stengel and Klein that question?

(c'mon, you didn't really think that with all the stuff coming out about how Congressmen and Senators were blocked by Klein and Stengel from responding to Klein's RESTORE Act smear, that no one was going to ask why you -- the resident media critic -- has had nothing to say about it, did you?) :-)

I'm getting VERY excited about the Wire coming back....even though I still have to watch Season 4 (the first two discs are at my apartment from Blockbuster, so it won't take me long)....

Plus, my best friend makes a cameo appearance on the show this season!

@p_luk: Yeah, I pretty much teed that one up for you. Don't think it didn't cross my mind.

You already know my standard disclaimer / excuse -- I have thoughts about many things my employer does and does not do, but I'm not Time's ombudsman -- but for what it's worth, Joe Klein is also on record as a fan of The Wire:

Everything, as they say, is connected.

McNulty's drinking again. McNulty's drinking again. McNulty's drinking again!

Waitresses in Baltimore, hide your hearts.

    No McNulty!

He has such a good girl at home. Dont drink!

Im actually sad we only get 10 eps this season. I dont know why HBO started making 10 episode seasons...

Will anyone important die this season?
