The Morning After: Mother and Child Reunion

The CW/ Michael Desmond
I owe you an apology--I never got around yesterday to warning you not to watch Crowned. This isn't knee-jerk reality-TV snobbery: when I originally heard "mother-daughter beauty pageant," I was there. But the first episode, unfortunately, went the American Idol auditions route of mocking the freakish side of the pairings rather than letting them surprise us (a la Beauty and the Geek). I mean, it's a little unfair to throw a pageant and then make fun of the entrants for being, well, pageant contestants, right? Anyway, comments on this, or spoilers on the accompanying finale of ANTM, are welcome. Polish those teeth and smile like you mean it!

Pusing Daisies finished its pre-strike season in a weird way. It was easily the most serious episode yet, but still had lots of funny moments. Chuck was great in her dramatic turn last night. How about that cliff-hanger? I didn't see that coming.

Re: previous post on Deal or No Deal...
Loved the "deal wheel" gimmick -- but the show needs to can the "special guests", and start moving things along faster. Considering how cheap the show must be to produce, there's really no reason to drag stuff out to the extent they are doing just to avoid giving away a couple of hundred thousand once in a while...

I agree with the "weird" ending for Pushing Daisies. While there was no continuing need for the aunts, adding that just seems out of left field. Similarly weird was the developments with Emerson's family.
Personally, I'd like the show to be about the main cast and an occasionally reoccurring cast of oddballs. But given the strong family presence in Fuller's previous shows (Dead Like Me would have been far better if George's entire family had been removed or turned into to the occasional "through the window" views Chuck has with her aunts, and half of Wonderfalls' cast was Jaye's family (hey, including Lee Pace)), in retrospect, I should not have been surprised by last night's events.

The Crab in Pushing Daisies is still making me laugh a day later.

Did that crab from Pushing Daisies remind anyone else of those rock-crab things from PotC: At World's End? (Am too lazy to spell out the whole title. Or use pronouns.) That's not a bad thing, just... a bit weird.
