Lostflash! Mark Jan. 31 on Your Calendars

Per ABC's just-released midseason schedule, Lost returns Thursday, Jan. 31, at 9 p.m. Yes, I said Thursday--but assuming we're not going to have new episodes of The Office for a while anyway, I'm OK with that for now. (And Mrs. Tuned In will be glad not to have to stay up until 11 for Lost.)

Also, According to Jim will return. [Shakes fist at sky.] Damn you, writers' strike!

It's about time they made this announcement. All of a sudden February and March isn't looking too bad with LOST and The Wire. I am also intrigued by HBO's In Treatment. James, have you received any screeners for In Treatment yet?

But this is just for the 8 episodes, right? Heh, all that planning to avoid another initial episode 'pod' like last year's less-than-inspirational starting 6 goes down the drain. Well as long as there aren't endless scenes of people scattered all about the island in cages getting tortured by the Others, that'll do.

With only eight episodes in the can, do you know if they are going to show all eight back-to-back or try and make it last with some filler shows?

The new years isn't shaping up too bad. First Lost and then a few months until Battlestar Galactica kicks off its last season. Not too bad at all.

Man, I was all ready to see if Lost could finally take down the ridiculousness that is American Idol, but I guess ABC just doesn't have the guts.

I thought that finally, with the deal to end Lost, a studio had developed a sense of artistic integrity in their partnership with the writers. But no, they're going to continue with all sorts of obsolete scheduling moves that have proven disastrous with an uber-serialized show like Lost, air the 8 episodes with the potential cliff hanger just ready to piss off a lot of malcontents, all for the purposes of ratings. They don't care one iota about the art or the fans, just the ratings. (I know I'm overreacting, but Lost and Wednesdays just go together)

Bring it on. I am thrilled that they decided to air the 8 episodes, and can't wait for Season 4 to begin. Hard to believe that the show didn't receive any Golden Globe nominations for writing or acting, especially given the stellar second half.

I'm a big Scrubs fan, so I don't like that my only two Thursday shows with new eps have to be on at the same time.

This winter isn't looking half bad at all. Sarah Conner Chronicles, the return of Jericho (we still get Jericho, right?), Lost, and BSG to look forward to.

@ James - as the strike drags on, and i have been sadly deprived of my usual viewing choices, I have taken the opportunity of catching up on shows that I hadn't gotten into yet. Samantha Who and The Big Bang Theory are both nice. The most surprising one for me has been Moonlight, which I had initially predicted to be a horrendus Angel rip-off. Turns out, there CAN be two most excellent (and distinct) shows about heroic vampire detectives in big california cities. The parallels are definitely there (yes, our vampire hero even has a long-lost ex who is mysteriously human for awhile and also has gotten kinda burned up - by him - in a fire, I'm just waiting for her to turn up pregnant with an ungrateful wretch of a child), but the show takes a different enough approach that it actually works.

This show is definitely worth a second look. It may be my very favorite of the new batch of shows. Good writing, excellent chemistry, and a VERY appealing lead couple. I had seen part of the pilot at some point, and thought it was aii-ght. But after watching the first 3 episodes my husband and I were both totally hooked. The 4th episode - Fever - was the best of the season, and I wish I had seen it in time to put it on the Best Episodes of the Season list.

    D'invernale canto.

    Il candido
    nevischio, adagiatosi
    nei ritorni di
    un rapido sentiero,
    par quasi l'accenno
    che nel chiaror
    rinasce, in taciturna
    voce ed in gelida
    armonia; adorata
    m'appare, come
    augello che al
    suon tremante fugge,
    del suono la letizia
    e del canto la
    poesia, e insiem
    con essa, nel cuor
    della vallata, odo
    pallida la piova
    dimorare e poi morir.
