Last night was the latest round in America's electoral free-for-all, a round that, depending on your perspective, was gripping and decisive or a meaningless beauty contest. I speak, of course, of the Omaha audition rounds of American Idol. A couple audition rounds of Idol are plenty for me, but tens of millions of my countrymen still disagree with me, so if any of you are among them, let me know what you think the season so far. In particular, what about this kinder, gentler incarnation of Simon Cowell? Do you like it, or do you long for his harsh British-headmaster discipline?
