TV Weekend: Strike Out?
The biggest show of the 2007-08 TV season will be tomorrow night, and you will not be able to watch it. That's when the WGA holds a massive hootenanny at the Shrine Auditorium in LA (and a somewhat smaller hootenanny in New York City) for members to talk (or yell) over the proposed deal the guild negotiating committee has been working out with the producers. If the meetings go well, or not-badly, enough, this could mean an end to the writers' strike by as soon as next week.
Could.
Think good thoughts. And in the meantime read this Michael Cieply article in the New York Times, which reports that the key intermediary in settling the strike may have been Laeta Kalogridis, one of the writers behind strike website unitedhollywood.com. A strike over money from the Internet--resolved by the Internet! Those crazy writers and their irony!
[Update: The LA Times has an extensive, and somewhat speculative, list of whether and when various shows might return when the strike ends--to anticipate your question, it's ambiguous on Lost.]
