Barack Obama posts what will be the first in a series of Presidential (or for now, President-Elect-ial) weekly addresses on YouTube. The sounds you hear in the background from about :35 to 1:05, while he talks about the economic crisis? Sirens! Because we weren't quite alarmed enough to begin with.

I happen to work in downtown Chicago a few blocks from Obama's transition headquarters and I can tell you that those sirens are the near constant soundtrack to life downtown. My desk is near a window on the 14th floor of our office building and the customers on the phone are always asking what the hell is going on in the background. the downtown streets are kind of narrow (4 or 5 lanes tops) and the buildings are pretty sheer so the noise from sirens and horns can be heard for blocks.

It's pretty exciting to think that our government for the next four years and with it a period of future US history is being shaped just a few blocks from my office :-)

Great to see this. I love P-E BHO is going green by recycling the background from my 2nd grade class picture.

I smell a new SNL skit. Is that weird to think in terms of what would make a good SNL skit? Probably.
