Lost Trailer Discussion Group: Event Window Determined
This should keep you busy for a while. ABC has released a new Lost trailer, replete with cryptic tantalyzing glimpses.
Who's on fire? Who's falling from the balcony? What's Desmond doing with Penny? And when is he doing it? Is Locke saying "Paul is dead"? (Actually, sl-lost.com says it has backwards audio of Locke's reversed dialogue.)
Your answers, or rather your questions, are welcome.

So a lot of shirtless sawyer there, some sort of shirt-purge perhaps?
Saywer with Faraday probably means that Faraday didn't wind up someplace different from the few remaining Losties and Red Shirts.
I imagine that was claire on the phone telling Kate not to bring him back, if only because that will keep up the does she mean Aaron or Locke intrigue.
I'm going to guess that the person on fire was just a red shirt and that the person going over the balcony was a henchman, either Ben's or Widmore's or Piak's.
What i want to know is who was that coming out of the SUV all Jack Bauer with his gun drawn, looked pretty professional so i'm leaning Sayid. -

As Carlos said, the main point is that Sawyer is with Daniel, which means that (at least initially) he's whenever the Island ended up. Flaming pitch isn't a terribly complicated weapon, which doesn't narrow down much when their adversaries are from - though I think it should rule out pre-Purge Dharma (but there's no guarantee they aren't in the Dharma Era (DE?) fighting with their "hostiles").
Interesting that all the Sun footage so far is just of her in that locked room - I'm guessing she's not a big player in the Jack/Ben (Back? Seems appropriate) plans, especially at first.
Aside from that it's too fuzzy and brief to get any real information out of. Only four weeks until the premiere, if you want to get Robo-James loaded with some Lost discussion questions prior to your vacation...

I agree with Tom... while there seems to be new information in there, it's hard to really glean anything out of it (though, with the week off, I'm sure I'll dedicate WAY too much time to getting anything I can from those shots).
`
The hooded figure at the chalkboard piqued my curiosity the most. One YouTube commenter speculated that it's Ms. Hawking, which would be interesting (though, why would Ms. Hawking need to write at a chalkboard?). My initial thought was Daniel, but the person appears to have blonde or yellow hair, so Ms. Hawking makes sense.
`
I saw that abc.com has 2 short scene previews (I think both under 2 minutes). They don't give anything remotely groundbreaking away - between them, one detail really caught my eye and made me think - but I'm not sure what exactly the spoiler policy is, if we have an explicit spoiler policy at all. So, if you're up for a couple very bland, unsurprising scenes, head that way. -

Dave, I thought I heard that Reiko Aylesworth (best known from 24) was cast as some sort of mathematician; I would bet that that's her with a dye job.
What is interesting, if the show is casting mathematicians, is that in the earlier preview, Jack was shown in a Dharma branded video. It's entirely possible that Jack going to all the wrong places to look for help (Hanso) gets their Dharma branch reconstituted, who go and find the Island (in Season Six), thus causing the catastrophe that Jack was looking for help to avoid! (Yes, yes, sci-fi has been doing time travel effect-and-cause long before, say, 12 Monkeys rolled around, but never on the scale of not showing the first shoe dropping for an entire year.)

Tom, I'm *pretty* sure you just caused my head to explode. I missed Jack in the Dharma branded video, but that's not entirely surprising. After thinking about Jack bringing Hanso (and Sun bringing Paik?) back to the Island, I see what you're saying. Though if they do that, it'll still blow my mind then. I also don't follow cast movements, so it would also not be surprising to have a new cast member doing mathy things on the chalk board.
`
I had an interesting thought: does Locke's dad (blanking on his name at the moment) have any connection to the Island? Why else would Richard be at Locke's birth? Part of me keeps expecting to see Richard having a good time on the Island with younger versions of Locke's dad, Christian Shepherd, and Charles Widmore. -

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Ok now that that's out of my system. . .
I've no answers to any of your questions, unfortunately.ONLY 28 DAYS!

Well, given the previous Lama connections, I'd point out that the Dalai title isn't inherited.
But going into pure conjecture, I'd say that you are still thinking in linear terms Dave. Again, I'd point out that we have no guarantee Locke-as-Bentham (hereby referred to as Bentham) returns to the outside world only in that narrow window between the O6 "rescue" and Bentham's funeral. (Evidence towards: the time travel the other Tunisians have exhibited and the massive size of Bentham's obituary - how could he live that much in only two years?) If he borrowed some of Richard's anti-aging cream, there's really no limit to how long he was around (I'd put good money on him creating Mittlelos Biotechnologies). So Richard's appearance at his birth may have been nothing more than Bentham telling him, "Don't believe me? I'll be born May 30th, 1956".

I suspect that I tend to think in more linear lines because with time travel and the universe Lost has presented us, it could get ridiculous. Maybe the Island goes back in time and Locke and Ms. Hawking populate the Island with the original inhabitants
If I think more linear, it's a little more reasonable and believable.
`
At the same time, I wasn't so much thinking that Anthony Cooper would have been a former leader. I more relate it to Christian Shepherd, as he seems to be in on the important job Jack has to do on the Island.
`
I suspect that when Ben moves the Island, it shows up at the same time he did in Tunesia. Does Richard have a means of teleporting people through time and space other than moving the Island? Would that be all that unrealistic in the Lost universe?
