Vacation Robo-Post: Return of LDG!

With Lost returning in three weeks, it's as good a time as any to bring back Lost Discussion Group. Since last we convened, ABC has released a couple "sneak peek" clips from the coming season, so let's kick it off with those. The first brings us up to speed with Kate, Aaron, and Angela Chase's dad from My So-Called Life:

After the jump, the second re-introduces Jack and Ben, beginning their quest to get the band back together:

A few quick thoughts:

* Lost is one of those shows that does adults better than kids—with the exception of precocious child-adults like Walt—so I'm not dying to see a lot more Aaron scenes. That said, who is it who's so anxious to know his parentage?

* I have no special knowledge of this but, Ben being Ben, I have to wonder already if he knows more about what happened on the Island, or what will happen on the Island, than he's letting on.

* Speaking of the Island, that's what we all really want to know about, right? How long before Lost takes us back there? And how concerned are you about the amount of time season 5 will spend off-Island?

[Update: Yes, ABC is previewing the first two episodes for critics. No, I haven't watched yet. Yes, I will soon. No, I won't spill any details even after I do. Yes, I am trying to torture you.]

I just figured that Aaron's father would come calling. "Hm... that famous kid looks a lot like my baby pictures, and my pregnant ex-girlfriend would have been due right around the time he was born." Maybe it's a Widmorian play to get Kate on his side by getting Aaron's father involved.
    `
Aside from that, after watching that sneak peak, I'd be OK not seeing Kate or Aaron for a few episodes. Off-Island, I care most about seeing Ben and Jack, but I'm also interested in what Sayid and Hurley are up to.
    `
If I tried to list everything on-Island I care about, I'd probably lose my job for being on here too long :)

What I absolutely can't wait to find out is why Sun is allying herself with Widmore... Is it a ploy? Is she for real?

I guess learning about where/when the Island went would also be nice, but whatever.

I always thought the actor who played Walt was great precisely because DIDN't play precocious.

My money is on Ben being behind the Baby Blood Test thing. He's trying to rally the forces to return to the island, so the natural thing for him to do would be to spook Kate. He knows that she will run, and there really isn't anyone else that she can run to except Jack. Which is right where Ben would want her, so that's my hypothesis. I thought that Jack could possibly be in league with Ben on the scheme, being in the best legal position to petition the court for a blood test, but I doubt that he would do that to her, and it would also directly contradict their whole O6 story so I'm betting on Ben. Maybe he dug up the real baby daddy, maybe he's got some other scheme.

My guess is that Ben sent the DNA man, knowing how difficult it would be to get Kate on board with going back to the island.

    shara's too fast for me.

Well, there's no way the sheriff's gonna come out and help take blood unless there's a court order, and for there to be a court order the case has to be reviewed by a judge and all parties to be properly identified. "Lost" is once again playing fast and loose with the US legal system -- like when Kate was tried in L.A. County court for a federal crime (bank robbery) and a murder that took place in another state!
