Programming Note: Boycott American Idol Tonight!
It'll be easy, since the show is not on tonight; American Idol's being time-shifted one day this week because of President Obama's address to Congress. Time.com, by the way, will begin our full-bore morning-after Idol reviews once the show gets to the final 12; in the meantime, I'll try to post something here, time permitting.
Idol is one of the shows my mother-in-law watches religiously, so I got to have the intergenerational Idol-viewing experience while on vacation last week. After last week, I still don't see anyone to stop Danny Gokey from rolling to the title (even though I'm not quite sure where his niche as a commercial pop singer is). Any other top challengers? Lil Rounds? Norman Gentle? Do you see any dark horses in the herd?

I hadn't watched Heroes at all since it came back for the new chapter - just couldn't make the time for it, so I'm way behind. But Mr. Shara Says insisted that I watch it with him, and it wasn't half bad. For one thing, it appears that Mohinder and Parkman have re-ignited their dysfunctional bromance, and are again bickering like an old married couple. Since I've always watched their story with the idea that they're actually "together", it was absolutely hilarious. Lots of good HRG stuff, doublecrosses, evilness, I think I'm gonna start watching it again.

The only thing that can stop Danny Gokey is the Daughtry Effect. If he goes the whole run of the show as the head-and-shoulders favorite, people will get bored with him unless he shows that can be versatile (the thing that humored me most about Daughtry is how that clip of him singing for the judges in the audition round sounded exactly like everything he sang every week).
`
For the record, if this happened to someone before Daughtry, go ahead and rename the effect. That season with Daughtry was the season I paid the most attention to

The second I heard Danny Gokey's first audition, I said out loud with complete confidence, this guy will win. I'm stickin by it until the viewing public says otherwise.

Like Shara, I've resumed a tentative 'Heroes'-watch. Interesting HRG flashbacks yesterday. Not perfect but insightful.
.
The Parkman/Mohinder dynamic is a tad irritating to me right now though. There's got to be other ways to show dysfunction (if that really is the goal). I don't know, maybe less screaming at each other and more effort to re-establish the characters' emotional proximity to the audience.
.
The dialogue on the show is actually not half-bad (IMO), but there's been so much talking and movement (photography and storywise) so far, with little real-world emotional revelation (except with Sylar). No wonder we feel alienated from the characters.
.
Last night, I kept thinking, argh, slow the roll and get me into the character's head. Just how disappointed is Packman? I mean, the occasional 3-5 second no-dialogue closeup as the actor peels back the character's emotional veneer, would/could/should make me care more for their current plight, I think.
.
The show has an awesome cast, I'm thinking they can totally deliver here, with some good direction.
.
Oh, and as for AI, I'm a tad leary of the producers' Danny-hype. Something's afoot. Like Daughtry, the script may actually have him NOT being crowned ultimate idol but relegated to some other more lucrative contingency. Hmm.
.
Wow, seems I'm rather long-winded today. OK, back to work. Cheers. -

@bzdeck - i love the parkman/mohinder dynamic, but not because it is quality character stuff - cause its definitely NOT! I just like thinking of their bickering as having man-love undertones. I was seriously laughing uncontrollably while they argued. Because I'm apparantly back in middle school again. . .

@Shara- LOL. I see you've got your own little novella going there
. Yeah, I've had my own-- like wondering about the Nathan/Peter 'dynamic'. Something about their heavy emoting and touchy-feely love language gets me raising an eyebrow. Oh wait, wasn't I just whining about the show's lack of emotion...? *snicker*. -

Last year everyone was so sure that David Archuleta was gonna win but he didn't. I like Danny okay but I don't see what everyone else seems to.
