Idol Followup: Your Predictions, and Predictions About Predictions

The format of the fancy-schmancy American Idol review gallery doesn't really lend itself well to writing a wrap-up of the show, so I thought I'd put up a separate post for your (and my) predictions for tonight's dual elimination.

But first: what are your predictions for the promised world-shattering twist? Ryan and Simon said that the change in the rules would involve the judges, and that it essentially will change the nature of the Idol elimination process. Which suggests that it somehow involves the judges picking a contestant to boot, or otherwise having a hand in the vote. (Picking an ejectee from among the lowest vote-getters, sparing a favorite from elimination, etc.)

As I've said before, I prefer to save my outrage for actual elections. But I agree with Sepinwall that, just from the standpoint of the show's self-interest, doing anything that makes the home voters feel they have less influence in picking their Idol would be colossally stupid. And I don't think the producers are quite that stupid, so I'm going to guess it'll be a one-time deal: maybe, just for tonight, the lowest vote-getter will go home, plus another of the judges' choice.

(Update: Another thought is that they may have ginned up some sort of one-time twist as a way to spare Alexis from elimination, if it turns out she was sabotaged by the notorious porn-line snafu. Just thinking out loud there. How about... three singers are "eliminated," and the judges pick one of them to spare?)

As for who's going home, my predictions, before I peeked at dialidol.com, were Anoop and Jorge. But if the judges are going to stick their oars in, who knows? What's the fun in guessing? Which is another reason for them to leave well enough alone.

Let's hear your predictions, but one rule: if you also looked at dialidol's rankings, keep it to yourself, thanks.

I'm going along with the line of thinking that's it away to keep Alexis in because of the porn phoneline problem. Of course, if they wouldn't have changed the rules to allow Anoop in last week, they wouldn't have this problem.

And Anoop didn't deserve to be here in the first place, so I say he's going home.

so Jorge is out... and then the question is who else... I like Anoop, but last night's performance might have killed him. I also think Michael was blah... and personally I still don't get Scott or Jasmine. Though I do still like Megan Quirkery, I'd like to see her in another round, but seriously, go Adam. Though my fav part of last night was Simon and my fav quote was 'It's fine being artistic, just not on this show.'

Jorge was the biggest trainwreck of the night, I seriously can't imagine him actually making it through another round. I thought that Michael Carver was boring as all get-out, but he's likable and not a terrible singer. I couldn't figure out what anyone was praising Matt Giraud for, I thought that he was almost as bad as Jorge. Anoop was kinda goofy, but I don't expect him to get kicked off yet.
    .
My least favorite of the night: Jorge and Matt
My predictions for the bottom two: Jorge and Jasmine.
