Judging American Idol: The Final 9

This week's American Idol song theme was "popular downloads," which apparently means "songs, released at some point in the last forty years, that are available somewhere on the Internet." For reviews of this week's Idol performances, click on the photos below.

I thought none of these performances were all that great. Anoop and Meghan were especially bad; why Meghan has made it this far is beyond reason. Once again, the judges comments are questionable. Paula is horrible this year, more so than ever in the previous years. I also find Simon's remarks concerning Scott baffling along with his instance at making Paula feel bad for suggesting he not always rely on the piano. Yeah, it would have been stupid not to use the piano this time, but she's right: he does use it as a crutch -- even Stevie Wonder steps out from behind the piano now and again; so do Billy Joel and Elton John, for that matter.
Quite frankly, I find all of these performers to be mediocre at best. We pretty much know who the top five, if not the top three, will be. Surely Adam and Scott will have to screw up big time to not be in the top 3. There's really no excitement to the contestants this year.

I thought that Kris Allen was the only standout of the night. I really enjoyed his song. I thought Megan was awful, and Anoop was pretty bad too. I really like Scott, but am NOT into any of the music he ever plays, and think that he's kinda boring. I really didn't like the first half of Adam's song, but I liked the last half a lot better. I thought that Matt G. did well - better than he got credit for, anyway. I don't like most of the stuff he picks, at least he picked a song I actually like this time around (and, for the record, I'm NOT usually a fan of male falsetto, so that was a nice break). Lil was competent but boring. Danny was aiight but I don't even remember what he sang.

    My favorites: Kris and Allison
My least favorites: Anoop and Megan

i agree with James on bottom three as Megan, Anoop, and Matt. though i'd like to see Anoop or Scott go home i think it might be Matt.

i thought Megan was better this week than last (I still like her) so i'd like to see her stick around another week and redeem herself and think Matt has more talent but his average performance and his bland almost hostile exchanges don't help him.

this was the first week that i actually saw something in Danny and Kris, still like Allison as well, but as always, it's The Adam Show...

I also agree Megan should have been gone for along time now. Kris is very talented and I believe he will go far and of course Adam. Lil has a big oh voice and I sure hope she knocks our socks off next week.

It was Megan's time to go. But she'll get a record deal and in the right hands, her good looks and quirky voice she's be very marketable. What I do not understand is why Scott gets a free pass with the judges. LISTEN to this guy...he is really really cheesy. nothing original. He is Richard Carpenter light. Every song sounds the same..and just a wee bit flat. I truly don't get it.
Other than that.. this is by far the most talented group as a whole and should make for the best tour group ever!
