The Morning After: Weekend Edition
I'm going to be delayed in doing any Sunday Watch posts, so I'm throwing it open for discussion of any weekend TV, including but not limited to:
* (SPOILER ALERT) The Amazing Race, whose two-part nonelimination round was not a surprise, exactly—it was clearly too early to get down to the Final Three—but annoying as usual nonetheless, since the teams are so closely bunched together that we may as well not have even watched this week. I wonder if the producers of TAR have ever considered ditching the noneliminations and adding a couple more pairs to the beginning of the race, or if 11 is the natural limit of teams that can be intelligibly followed in one episode; or
* Breaking Bad, which again brought the tension and the comedy, with a great turn by Bob Odenkirk as a sleazebag lawyer (how exactly do you fit sleaze into a bag, anyway? with a funnel?); or
* In Treatment, which I hope to start blogging next week, once we get past the four weeks I watched for review—I just don't have the hours in my day to go back and re-watch two and a half hours for week for blogging purposes. From what I read in my review, however, I apparently enjoyed this week.

Breaking Bad gets better every week. That pre-credit scene was hilarious. Without a doubt the fastest hour of my TV week. In fact, I am having a tough time deciding if it's better than Mad Men. I worry that the only directing AMC can go from this point on is south. Hopefully, they will prove me wrong.

@James--Which do you think is more worthy of the Best Drama Emmy. Mad Men or Breaking Bad?
---
I think it will be difficult to get both shows nominated because they are on the same network. Maybe they will just give Bryan Cranston another Best Actor trophy (which he has earned). -

@Chriskw, I've been thinking about the same thing, and I think I have to go with Breaking Bad for this season. It's just been one amazing episode after another. And Yo! Don't forget about Aaron Paul as Jesse, he deserves at least a nod for supporting actor.

I don't like some of the patients in In Treatment, and I liked them all last season so for that reason I've been a little disappointed. Also some of the writing is kind of heavy-handed (very easy to diagnose all the characters). But it's still a great show, and whoever the actress is that plays the cancer patient is amazing. This week especially.

Regarding Amazing Race, myself and my girlfriend both cheered when Phil pulled the pit stop fake-out on the cheerleaders at the end of the show- that team has become the easiest to dislike, due to Jaime's embodiment of the "ugly American" (to say nothing of her impatience with others overall, including her own teammate); what did she expect- that they would only be travelling to the English-speaking corners of these countries?
P.S.- after watching Margie & Luke cackle with glee at Jen & Kisha's difficulties, I'll be happy to see them go down the tubes as well. Boy, I wish Mel & Mike were still around.....
