The Morning After: How's It Hangin', Cliff?

ABC

While extolling the virtues of online give-and-take with readers, I neglected to mention the most important benefit of it: getting someone else to do your work for you! In this case, hashing over the cliffhanger-y season finale of Grey's Anatomy. (No spoilers here, but assume there will be in the comments and proceed accordingly.) Assuming there are a few fans out there in Tuned Inland, what say you: did that thing that looked like it probably happen actually happen? Or was it one of those situations where it looks like it happened and then the next season cleverly shows you how it didn't happen?

OK, that was a total spoiler. My apologies.

I'll post up some posts on NBC's comedy finales and Survivor in a bit, but the rest of this last Thursday night of the season is all yours in the comments.

Last night, I figured it out -- Grey's Anatomy is out of ideas, and so now it is blatantly ripping off old ER plots and making them more "sexy" and "soap opera"-rific.
    .
From earlier this season --- ER: Mark Greene saves a baby but loses and mother; the father played by a fairly soon-to-be-well-known actor (Bradley Whitford) is distraught and sues, causing Mark to go into a long funk. Grey's: Derek Shepard loses a pregnant woman from complications from brain surgery but the baby is saved; the father played by a fairly soon-to-be-or-already-is-well-known actor (Ben Shenkman) is distraught and sues, causing Derek to go into a long funk.
    .
Then, from last night's (2nd hour) episode, (SPOILER ALERT -- You've bene warned) George has announced his decision to join the Army; later, a body is brought in mangled and deformed after being hit and dragged by a bus, with a young woman coming along saying the guy is a hero who pushed her to safety. The doctors work on the body, who tries to write/"sign" words to Meredith. The whole day, everyone plots their strategy to have George rescind his enlistment, with the plan being to confront him "after he gets out of surgery with the Chief." In the final minutes of the show, the John Doe patient having more complications and needing more surgery, he writes with his fingers on Meredith's hand "007" -- the nickname the doctors have for George. Everyone freaks out, rushing him to surgery, realizing the unrecognizable person they're trying to save was their colleague.
    .
The ER parallel? Let's just say I was waiting all episode for someone to say "Page O'Malley" and have a pager from the John Doe's pocket go off, a la the Eric La Salle/Noah Wyle scene while working on a John Doe body that turns out to be Omar Epps, their colleague and put-upon student.
    .
I mean, did ANYONE not see that coming a MILE away? Sure, the B plots were slightly interesting, but COME ON, how derivative can you be, Grey's Anatomy? Will the Chief be losing an arm soon to a helicopter blade? (Oh wait, we already had our Grey's "helicopter" moment with Owen Hunt, the ceiling fan, and his flashback/night terror choking of Christina....)

I had never seen this show, but I watched the last five minutes with the hope Heigl would die. Is that wrong?

@Rorschach - I stopped watching a couple of seasons ago, but I've gotten the sense that you are not alone in those hopes...
