CBS, NBC Announce Fall Skeds
CBS and NBC have become the last broadcast networks to announce their fall premiere dates, which is the earliest I recall the fall slate being settled in some time. Unsurprisingly, CBS is going with tradition, launching almost everything in the usual Premiere Week, a.k.a. the third week of September, while NBC is shaking things up modestly, debuting some shows a week early to go with the Sept. 14 launch of Jay Leno. I'm mildly surprised NBC didn't launch everything one week early (starting the 14th) to provide a strong lead-in for Leno.
Unless I am reading things wrong, the lead in for Leno's big premiere- a third of NBC's schedule, let me remind you - will be... some episode of L&O: Criminal Intent that already aired on cable, possibly months before? The premiere of Loser and the finale of Talent (again, if I am reading things correctly) are better lead-ins on the following days, but that Monday strikes me as a major mistake.

I don't know what to take of Trauma getting a Saturday repeat spot. Not that I believe the Saturday repeats have any promotional power - Southland sure didn't get anything out of it - but I find it odd that NBC is trying to goose ratings on a show that comes off the schedule in February*. One would think they would reair Heroes there, so as to eke some cost/benefit out of Season 4 (with the ratings Heroes is likely to get, that show has to be a money pit).

*NBC's Fall schedule runs through the second week of February, yes? That will lead to some awkward backorders, to say nothing of the schedule convulsions should shows get canceled early. At the very least, you can pencil in a return for FNL on March 5th. -

Personally, I hate staggered premieres. I like having a premiere week because I can check out the news and make a decision about whether or not to watch again. Besides, you can always count on CBS to go with the traditional route.
.
NBC's Thursday looks weaker than ever.
