Spoiler Alert! Betraying The Secrets of Mad Men
Since we talked about the secret-sensitive Mad Men and Tuned In's spoiler policy last week, here's something else for you to look at while I do things that are not writing posts for this blog:
I must admit, it weirds me out a little to see Mad Men stars out of their period coiffure. But I have to tell you, I've visited the Mad Men set, and it's all true: Rich Sommer totally does have a __________.

I'm still just flabbergasted at how overblown the big "spoiler" was about the time period. From how every tv media person was talking (not their fault, Weiner wouldn't let them) about what they couldn't talk about I was assuming it must be a huge deal. I now read your first spoiler post in a new light. I'm a huge anti-being-spoiled-guy but this was crazy. Maybe it was a way for Weiner to build hype? Spoiler! In the next episode of Law and Order someone commits a crime! Spoiler! The new season of It's Always Sunny takes place in Philly, but it's not the same day as last season!
That must have been frustrating for you to talk about not talking about something so uninteresting.
(sorry I ignored the video, can't watch that from here)

I think Weiner is sincere. It seems to be part of his temperament. BUT it is also a way for AMC to build excitement, publicity. Face it, this show is not The Sopranos. No one gets whacked. It is about advertising guys and housewives. And the things I love about the show have nothing to do with Big Shocker Secrets. But for all the people who loved The Sopranos for its character stories, there was another group who followed it for the who-gets-whacked excitement, which was fanned by that show's own obsessive secrecy. I can't blame AMC for wanting to build interest in a great but quiet show, but yeah--I do think the whole spoilermania is a good portion hype.
