The Morning After: Rescue Yourself

FX

Last week's episode of Rescue Me was the last advance screener I'd been sent, and it may be a while before I get around to last night's penultimate episode. So I'll open up the discussion to those of you who did watch. Going into the season finale, do you think the longer, 22-episode season has helped or hurt the show? Any other summer TV that's been grabbing your attention (while I've been up to my neck in fall screeners)?

Really enjoying this summer's shows--Mad Men, True Blood, Nurse Jackie, Entourage, Hung, Weeds. Haven't watched any of Rescue Me yet for a reason i never see discussed on TV-related sites. I DVR everything on an HD receiver, and since Rescue Me is the only show of all the summer shows I watch that isn't broadcast in HD, it takes up far less space on the DVR, and can be saved indefinitely, while I'm watching and erasing the HD shows.

Also, this new site is completely non-functional on the Safari browser. I tried to get on several times, gave up, moved to Firefox, and now it works fine. But your IT people really should address the Safari issue.

Haven't seen last night's Rescue Me yet, but this has been the best season in a few years, especially the comic bantor - great writing!

Summer is really my favorite TV season - The Closer has been solid, Burn Notice & Rescue Me have been better this year. In Plain Sight has had some weird moments, but really dealing with Mary's personality flaws, making her a "fragile hero," making this season really build. I've got Saving Grace queuing up, and haven't dug into it much yet.

This season's 22 episodes has not helped the show. It's seemed interminally long and desultory. Was there actually a story arc this season? An example of a show with too much time on it's hands is the recent episode's scene about Sean's orange penis. It went on and on and way too long. Don't get me wrong. I love jokes about orange penises as much as the next guy or gal, but that scene just didn't need that many actors marvelling over the same strange sight. A shorter season wouldn't have needed to so over-work a joke. In the most recent episode, Sean made the quick comment that his penis had evolved to a pleasant shade of blue. A quick comment was enough!
