O'Reilly, View Hosts Throw Down on Set

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly was a guest on The View today, and brought up the subject of, as he referred to it, “the mosque down here on 9/11.” As you might have guessed, he, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar had a reasonable and good-natured discussion about sensitivity and civil liberties an angry, bleeped-out shouting match that resulted in Goldberg and Behar storming off the set:

On the way to the conflagration, the author of Pinheads and Patriots charmingly interrupted Behar with, “Hold it! Listen to me, because you’ll learn,” cited a poll saying that 70% of Americans oppose the building of the Islamic center and said they were right, because “Muslims killed us on 9/11,” whereupon Goldberg let loose with a stream of bleepables. Is it naive to hope that at least 70% of Americans would like these folks to calm the hell down?

Perhaps not the viewers of O’Reilly and Behar’s primetime cable-news shows, which will probably not suffer from the publicity.
